This tournament will feature teams from all over the country in the 15u-18u club divisions competing for a bid the 2024 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship.
Here are a few Nevada volleyball clubs I look forward to watching this weekend in the very competitive Open and USA divisions.
OPEN DIVISION
16 OPEN
Northern Nevada Juniors – NNJ 16 Kuna
NNJ 16 Kuna will be playing in the Open division with hopes of securing a national bid. The Reno, NV team stands as the sole representative for the state in this division. The team recently achieved a top-50 finish at the Las Vegas Classic in February and will now get another chance to earn a national bid. I’ll be checking out this team and getting to know some of their players.
17 OPEN
Top Flight Volleyball Academy 17 National Black
Coached by former pro volleyball player Deja Harris, I expect this team to have a good run in the open division. The team finished 14th overall in the 17 open division at the Las Vegas Classic and will be pursuing another chance at a national bid this weekend. The team is on my radar for a pretty high finish in their division and possibly securing a bid to nationals.
USA DIVISION
15 USA
Top Flight Volleyball Academy 15 National Black
This will be my first time getting a chance to see Top Flight’s 15 National Black team in person. I will finally get to see a few players I have already been watching closely such as Julie Beckham and other rising stars in the Las Vegas area. Top Flight is one of the top volleyball clubs in Las Vegas and will be showcasing their talents this weekend in pursuit of securing a national bid.
Vegas Aces 15 UnderArmour
The Vegas Aces always show up big in tournaments and I expect nothing less this weekend as they compete in the 15 USA division. I’m excited to catch a few girls in action that I’ve had my eye on such as Alexandria Walker, Parker Lafontaine, Addison Jones, and others on the team. The Vegas Aces 14 Underarmour earned a national bid at Red Rock Rave #1 last weekend, so I am sure the 15s will be playing very hard this weekend to earn their bid as well.
16 USA
Vegas Aces 16 UnderArmour
This powerhouse team features some of the best high school players out of Las Vegas and Henderson, NV. This includes the 2023 Nevada Volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year, Ayanna Watson, 5A high school state champions and other highly ranked Nevada high school volleyball players. I’ve been following a few players such as Tristyn Ervin, Trinity Thompson, Tierney Ervin, Gentry Oblad, Hannah Wayment and more for a little while now. I will now get a chance to watch them in action as they compete for a bid to nationals this year.
17 USA
Vegas Aces 17 UnderArmour
The Vegas Aces will have another showing in the 17 USA division with more top players and state champions. The team has a player that finished 2nd in hitting % this past high school season, Willow Watson, who recently committed to Portland State University. In addition, I’ve been following other players such as Kennedy Cooper, Rachel Schwartz and others. Many girls on this team won the Red Rock Rave last year in the 16 USA division. This is one of my top picks in the division to make a run at securing a national bid. I’m excited to see this team in action this weekend.
Tstreet LV 17-Chris
This team has an impressive 8th place ranking in the Southern California Region according to the SportsEngine AES Power rankings. I am looking forward to getting my first look at a few players I’ve been following such as Kate Camp, Leimaile Lasike, and the rest of the team as they compete for their chance to qualify for nationals here in Las Vegas.
18 USA
Northern Nevada Juniors – NNJ 18 Jason
The Northern Nevada Juniors are gearing up to showcase their talents as they travel from Reno, NV this weekend. NNJ 18 Jason has had an impressive run finishing 5th in USA division at the Salt Lake City Showdown and 9th in the Open division at the Winter Classic earlier this year. I am excited to see a Nevada club team that is from outside the Las Vegas area for the first time. This team has a very good chance at securing a bid to nationals.
Vegas Aces 18 UnderArmour
This could be the final year of club for several standout volleyball players in the Las Vegas and Henderson areas and this team is giving it all they got. The team has already earned a national bid at the Salt Lake City Showdown Tournament back in February. I will get a chance to see several highly-ranked players that I’ve been keeping up with such as Tova Craig, Hannah Pemberton, Leilia Toailoa, and more.
I will be checking out other rising stars at volleyball clubs based in Nevada such as Vegas United, Next Level Volleyball Academy, NV Elevate, BroncosLV, Underrated Volleyball Club, and more. Good luck to all of the Nevada teams competing for their chance to make it to nationals this weekend.
