The opposite or right side hitter position in the class of 2025 is littered with talent. In the rankings you'll find prospects with size and athleticism and prospects with speed and diverse skills. What the team asks of these athletes can differ which changes their spot on the rankings because of what each team's offensive and defensive options on the roster. When I rank the opposite position the first thing I look at is the ability for the prospect to dominate at the net. If the player can be an impact in the back row both offensively and defensively they have all of the skills that college programs would look for in a pin hitter.

Newly Ranked Prospects

[player_tooltip player_id='526022' first='Anna' last='Cathcart'] - GP 17 Rox

Anna brings the size and length that college programs key in on for the opposite position. Her offense is mainly predicated on reading the block and her quick arm swing. When she drives her body through the ball that's when you'll see her power to blow up an opposing defender. Most of the time she relies on keeping a high contact and getting her hand on the ball fast before the block is set. With her length and height at the position along with her ability to read opposing hitters she's an absolute issue for the opposing hitter. She's able to set up the block in a spot to either block the ball or funnel the swing to a specific defender. Anna's potential is through the roof and has all of the room to grow into a top 10 opposite in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id='526043' first='Isabella' last='Schwantz'] - Cape Coast 17 Falcon

Bella might be one of the highest IQ players in the class let alone the opposite position. The ability to read defenses and understand what's open on offense is elite. She can hit the ball with speed, power, or finesse depending on what the situation dictates. Her team also asks her to set in the back row and does a great job setting up her hitters for success. Being able to be successful at both setting and hitting at the level she's able to do both at is rare. When watching Isabella the first thing I saw her do was set the ball over on one to the corner after the opposing team was still scrambling to get back into base. Those type of plays along with her athleticism is why I have Isabella in the rankings.

Stock-Risers

[player_tooltip player_id='499506' first='Bella' last='Satterwhite'] - WFWVC 17-Chad

Bella is the type of prospect that could be in the top 15 on both the outside and right side in Florida. She has range with her power swings on both pins which is rare for someone with her size. She's tall, long, and maybe the strongest at the position which she's able to take full advantage of at the net. Her ability to make quick decisions and execute on offense is impressive. The rest of her game is solid whether you look at her blocking, defense, or serve receive. Bella can do it all and excels in each of the skills that she's asked to do. Watching her play in person and on film being able to dominate the competition in combination with her overall game is why she moved up in the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='499533' first='Abigail' last='Willis'] - PVA U17

Abigail may not be the most technically sound but she has the athletic profile to be one of the top opposites in the class. She has the length and height that is rare to find in itself but when you combine that with the agility and the vertical jump that she plays with is almost unheard of. Her offense mainly consists of swinging fast and contacting high and still being able to put the ball in front or away from opposing defenses. The angle that she's able to hit the ball at while getting her hand on the ball so fast that defenders can't read her swings. Abigail's calling card is her blocking. Her ability to read the hitter and taking away the opponents main option in combination with the athleticism is why she moved up in the rankings.

The four prospects highlighted are massive impacts for their respective teams and will be coveted college recruits. Each of these players show their ability to either dominate at certain skills or athleticism. The impact that each of these players were able to bring to their teams and their player profile overall is some of the best in the class regardless of position. Knowing what college coaches are looking for at the position there's no doubt that these four players can be massive impacts if put in the right situation.
