Continue ReadingThe middle blocker (or middle hitter) is undoubtedly one of the most explosive players on the volleyball court. Their role demands athleticism, confidence, and a commanding presence at the net in both offensive and defensive play. In Nevada, the 2025 class features several talented middle blockers/middle hitters that possess all of those qualities and more.
Here are several standouts from across the state that have yet to commit to a college or university, but have proven their elite abilities and potential for the next level.
Kennedy stands out as one of the most dynamic middles in her class, boasting a combination of height, vertical leap, and lightning-fast arm swing that make her a dominant presence on the front row. Notably, Cooper’s blocking skills are top-notch, adding an extra layer of defensive strength to her game. Beyond her athletic abilities, her infectious energy radiates on the court, rallying her teammates and elevating their performance. She consistently delivers on plays that set her team up for success, leading to impressive finishes in high-stakes tournaments. With her captivating style of play, Cooper is undoubtedly an exciting player to watch, and I anticipate her to dominate her senior year.

Destiny Matthews
Destiny Matthews
Destiny is a force to be reckoned with on the court, showcasing explosive athleticism in the middle. Her exceptional ball placement, combined with an impressive vertical leap, grants her a wide array of attack options. Matthews demonstrates mastery in pinpointing deep corners and executing aggressive tips that capitalize on weaknesses in the opponent’s defense. Beyond her offensive abilities, she comes through for her team with crucial blocks. I anticipate her senior season to be nothing short of amazing, as she continues to elevate her game and leave a lasting impact on the court.
Jalynn Edwards
Jalynn Edwards
Jalynn’s infectious energy was the first thing that caught my attention. She electrifies the entire team with her enthusiasm after big kills and blocks. Edwards stands at 5’8” but her vertical, ball placement and decision-making skills make it challenging for the tallest of opponents to block. The middle has a diverse range of attack options in her bag, making it difficult for opponents to predict what she is going to do next. Her club team has had some impressive finishes at tournaments and her high school team was able to snag first in Nevada 4A last season with her help. Jalynn is a great asset to a team and I anticipate her continued success into her senior year.
Natasha’s arsenal of attack strategies is truly impressive, encompassing everything from powerful tips to executing precise back ones and three sets. Standing at 6’0”, her height provides a significant advantage at the net, enabling her to excel in both blocking opponents and strategically placing hits that exploit defensive weaknesses. With every match, Natasha continues to refine her game and reveal her exceptional talents, laying the groundwork for her senior year to be nothing short of extraordinary.

Brooklynn Williams
Brooklynn Williams
Brooklynn shines in the middle with her explosive play and precise ball placement. Williams ended her junior season at Bishop Forman as a 5A state champion and clinched the top spot in the state for her outstanding hitting percentage. With that being said, you can count on her to get kills frequently, whether it be a hard hit or smart tip. Her impressive vertical jump, high reach and athleticism combine to make her a force in the middle that is very difficult to defend. Brooklynn excels at swiftly transitioning off the net, ensuring she’s constantly ready to attack or effectively hold the opponent’s middle blocker by going in for the set every time. Overall, Williams embodies all of the qualities of an elite middle.
Stella Gajar
Stella Gajar
The 6’2” truly excels in the middle position offensively and defensively. Her ability to execute various attacks often leaves opponents guessing her next move. Notably, her powerful serve has resulted in numerous aces for her teams. Gajar’s impressive skills earned her multiple all-state awards during school, but what truly stands out is her remarkable hitting percentage, securing her 12th place in the competitive state of California. This further demonstrates her ability to capitalize when it’s her opportunity to swing on the ball with smart decisions. Furthermore, her contribution was pivotal in leading her high school team to clinch a 2A state championship, a feat not accomplished in over 30 years.
Damaia excels at delivering powerful swings into her opponents’ deep, open corners and can serve up aces with her impressive float serve. Her ability to anticipate the hitter’s moves translates into more blocks than the average player, or at the very least, disrupts the ball’s trajectory enough for her team to gain a strategic advantage. She epitomizes the essence of a true middle blocker. With her final high school season on the horizon, I anticipate she will continue to dominate the net and be a great asset to a college team.

Hadley Fallon
Hadley Fallon
Hadley is a standout middle and can play oppo effectively when necessary. The versatile player is great at hitting around the block which often scores critical points. After watching her play, it’s no wonder why she finished top 25 in Nevada for hitting percentage. She is great at quickly transitioning off the net and finding open spots on the court, whether deep corners or seams between players. Standing at 6’0”, Fallon’s impressive agility help her stand out as one of the most athletic middles at her height and age. Beyond her impressive hitting abilities, she contributes significant blocks for her team. I foresee her upcoming senior season as her most outstanding yet.
Skylyn Fields
Skylyn Fields
Skylyn has been playing extremely well in club season and should prove to be a great asset to to the Bishop Gorman varsity team. The junior can effectively execute slides, quicks, and three’s using a great armswing and by catching the ball at its highest point. This often leads to her hitting openings on the court or delivering powerful hits that cause defenders to shank the ball. In addition, she has great movement on front row and blocks effectively. Overall, the junior is impressive both offensively and defensively, most recently helping her team secure 3rd place in Gold at Red Rock Rave. I look forward to watch her in action next season.
