There was so much going on at this event that I focused on the 15s for the first part of Saturday and was truly impressed by the amount of effort and grit on display throughout the day. Let’s look at some of the great outside and right-side hitters at this event this past weekend.
Reed Gosselink
Gosselink plays for Club 1 15 Skronkstrong and tied for third place this past weekend at the Chi-Town Classic. Gosselink is a powerful hitter and can play off the attempted block at the net or hit a laser to the back row to target a defender’s outstretched hands. She uses their bodies against them to make her points. She is an impressive athlete and a joy to behold her unbridled aggression on the court.
Arianna Gamino
Gamino plays as an OH for Club 1 15 Blue and though her team did not finish on top this past weekend she looked great at the net. Gamino was impressive in the match I watched and while they lost the one I viewed, she was fantastic in her endeavors to keep it alive for her team. She is particularly great at aiming and hitting the back boundary or any player that is near it.
Rebecca Jones
Jones is an athlete for Ignite 15 Premier and had an outstanding performance at the Chi-Town Classic. Jones is a powerhouse hitter and intimidates her opponents with strength and accuracy. She has quick feet and a good vertical giving her the advantage when at the net. Her athleticism stands her in good stead during the long run of a two-day tournament and multiple matches.
Grace Wonder
Wonder is a six-rotation OH for Impulse 15 Red and performed wonderfully for her team this weekend. Wonder was wonderful this weekend. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This athlete is fire. She has impeccable serve/receive skills and can adjust her play at the net to tool off the block or hit right along the inside of her opponent’s side of the net making it nearly impossible to retrieve for her opposition. No matter her team’s opponent this past weekend, she was a lot for the defense to handle in each match.
Madison Belisle
Belisle is a right-side hitter for Impulse 15 Red and was impressive while on the court throughout the event. Belisle makes it look easy. To make it look so easy, it means she has done a million reps with each offensive move she performs regularly. She also has this quickness about her that is pure talent. Her touch is gold and seems very lucky, but she is so athletic that the ball rolls off her in the most advantageous way possible.
On’esti Sanchez
Sanchez is an outside hitter for Impulse 15 Red and was integral to her team’s third-place tie at the Chi-Town Classic. Sanchez has a high volleyball IQ. She uses this to her advantage by sending the ball into whatever corner is empty when she is ready to hit. She knows where every opponent is located on the other side of the net. She is a dangerous opponent and only does good things for her team in a tournament because of her game knowledge and ability to recognize and react quickly.
