In our last preview of class 3A, we discussed some of the regulars and some of the contenders. Today's edition covers the possible dark horse favorites to make a deep run in October.

One of the biggest reliefs that the Tigers got with the new classification was the news that Providence, who swept them in the regional semifinal last fall, is no longer in 3A. With all that comes back this fall, is this the year to win that regional title? Three-sport stud Ryan Scheu will bring her explosiveness to the fray, and is the leading attacker returning. Big lefty Maria Hillenbrand keeps defenses honest with her high attack point and her ability to score points on any angle from the right pin. Setter Reegan Buck has consistent and accurate hands that can run an offense at a high level. [player_tooltip player_id='475527' first='Kendall' last='Agler'] should be the libero for this group. However, the fact remains that the Tigers graduated seven from last year's 25-win squad. It might be too tall a task to get that all-elusive regional trophy.

Earning their regional trophy last fall was huge for this pack of Bruins, with sights set on an even loftier goal. The focus should be on primary attackers Izzy Masten (Pitt commit) and [player_tooltip player_id='260995' first='Caroline' last='Ward'] (#1 recruit for the class of '27 in Indiana). We've spoken at length on the importance of both, and how they go, so should the Bruins. However, [player_tooltip player_id='192090' first='Ryane' last='Spoonemore'] is a nice athletic option in the middle to keep the defenses from camping on the two studs listed above. She knows angles, and is a solid and consistent block at the net. Molly Garver is a setting option for this squad, and her accuracy and ability to keep defenses guessing might be the key to a deep October run. However, to compete with the Brebeufs and the Cathedrals of the world, a little more offense needs to be found.
