Who are the best freshmen volleyball players in Texas? We definitely saw some players who wanted that title over the weekend at our Freshman Showcases. The first session was held on Saturday July 27th at the Competitive Edge Training facility in Houston, TX. The one aspect that sets our showcases apart from every other one in the country is how we offer coverage, before, during, and after it is completed. This series of articles will discuss those special players that stood out for various reasons to our court coaches and scouts. They have won our prestigious Top Performer award. Let's meet the winners!

[player_tooltip player_id='580679' first='Jenna' last='Tello'] [2028] 5-4 Libero (HS: Johnson/Club: Austin Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Jenna is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Johnson High School and plays for the Austin Performance program. Jenna is one of the next great liberos to come out of a region of Texas that is known for amazing back row floor generals. This young lady has is all when it comes to the libero position. Her platform angles are strong and created early to rebound the ball perfectly toward her setter with precision. She was nominated by a few court coaches because of her grit and determination to pursue the ball without regard for her own well-being. She will do whatever it takes to keep the ball in play for her team. You can see the focus in her eyes when she plays the game and it lets you know just how serious she is about the task at hand. I can't wait to watch her in school ball so we can see where she stands in the Rankings when I release them in a few months. Stay tuned for more from Miss Tello. In the meantime, please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award.

[player_tooltip player_id='580668' first='Evelyn' last='Engels'] [2028] 5-11 Right Side (HS: Vandergrift/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Evelyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Vandergrift High School and club for the Austin Junior volleyball program. Miss Engles wowed all of us at the showcase with her amazing play and awesome attitude. She was a true joy to get to know and coach. You can tell by watching her play that she really loves the game and enjoys learning from everyone. On the court she was a true beast not backing down from any challenge. She was fierce at the net as both a blocker and as an attacker. She has a nice high reach, which allows her to have a clear advantage over blockers at the net as she swings with confidence. After watching her ball out this weekend, it is clear to me that she has a very high ceiling to keep improving and we will love to watch her progress over the next four years. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award at the showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='572594' first='Hailey' last='Tinnell'] [2028] 6-2 Middle (HS: College Park/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline']/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Hailey is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at College Park High School and also for the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] volleyball club program. Miss Tinnell comes from a volleyball family who is known for playing at a very high level. She is already making her mark in the sport with awesome play at the net. You cannot miss her tall frame when you first see her on the court, but she can back up that intimidation with a very physical net presence. By always being active at the net, she was giving her setters a big target to deliver the ball to with quick attacks out of the middle. Her hand contact and arm swing were pretty impressive on Saturday as she scored at will throughout the two hours against some great competition. She will for sure be on my list of players to watch this year in school and club ball. I strongly suggest you get to know her also because she will be a great one in the future. Please help us congratulate her on earning the Top Performer award for this showcase.
