What players from 2023 showed they may be ready for more action in 2024? We are keeping up with our series of players who may have breakout seasons this fall. The players I highlighted today saw action last fall and I think with more attempts are primed for bigger seasons.

Addyson Massa - DS/L - Woodland - 2027

In her freshman season, Massa showed she has playmaking ability as a defensive standout. I expect her numbers to bloom in her sophomore campaign. She contributed 3.3 digs per set, good for 249 total. After a season under her belt expect her reads and effectiveness to improve.

[player_tooltip player_id='485621' first='Hadley' last='Toomay'] - S - Lawson - 2027

Another youngster, Hadley saw quality minutes as a freshman for Lawson. She averaged 4.2 assists per set. I can see those numbers increasing this fall. Toomay is also solid defensively and had multiple double-digit dig matches.

[player_tooltip player_id='168047' first='Clare' last='Carroll'] - S - Whitfield - 2025

Another setter ready to make a splash this fall is Caroll. The senior wants to finish the last year with a bang and I think she is more than capable. She has been in the line-up since her freshman year, primarily as a setter until last fall. She was called on to be more of a factor offensively on the pin and delivered 228 kills in 71 sets while still delivering over 200 assists. She has had years of 600+ assists for reference. Regardless of where we see her this year, big numbers are ahead.

Julia Ashby - DS/L - Windsor - 2026

Another defender I want to spotlight, Ashby is ready for a big junior season. She wasn't too shabby as a sophomore navigating the back row for Windsor. She is a heads-up defender, seeing the attack well, and had 284 digs, good for 3.5 per set. I wouldn't be surprised to see that average over 5 this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='485589' first='Grace' last='Lynch'] - S/OH - West County - 2027

As a freshman Lynch showed she isn't shy about making plays. She saw action in 80 sets and contributed to many facets of the game. She totaled 217 kills wearing her offensive hat. She dished 236 assists when adjusting that offensive hat. When she flipped it around for defense, she captured over 200 digs. Expect her to have another well-rounded season with even bigger numbers to impress us.

Addie Brizedine - S - Russellville - 2026

Brizedine has a chance to have a big year in 2024. It's not like 2023 is anything to dismiss after dishing 609 assists on the season. This was good for 7.6 per set, impressive for a sophomore. She has really good hands and sets well to the pin. Her leadership is an intangible she brings to the court as a setter and also a basketball player.

[player_tooltip player_id='237648' first='Jaden' last='Jenkins'] - MB/OH - Russellville - 2026

We will finish with Brizedine's teammate Jenkins. As her teammate and classmate, Jenkins contributed to those 609 assists by collecting 198 kills last fall. Russellville should be improved in first contact which should allow for Jenkins to get even more touches in the middle. I wouldn't be surprised to see her with over 300 kills and 800 attempts.
