Nevada 5A HS Preview: Top Returning Pins

<p>The 2024 high school volleyball season is just around the corner, and we're excited to see some incredible players back in action, all aiming for a 5A state championship. Many standout athletes had a fantastic school season and carried that momentum straight into their club play. These standout players are poised for an outstanding year.</p>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Meet the Top Returning Pins in Class/Division 5A</h3>    <p class="text-gray-700">The reigning 5A Southern League Nevada Player of the Year and recent University of Pittsburgh commit is among the top players in the nation, following an outstanding junior season in both high school and club volleyball. She concluded her sophomore year as a 5A state champion with Bishop Gorman, leading the state with 605 kills. She also recorded 373 digs, 56 aces, 52 blocks, and had the fifth-highest hitting percentage in the state. Additionally, she was named the 2023 Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year. She was a key player on her club team, helping them earn double bids to Nationals. She recently participated in exclusive practice sessions with the USAV NTDP in California and was invited to a UA Next Invite Only Camp. With such achievements under her belt, she is poised for another exceptional junior season.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Tamara is truly impressive to watch in person, showcasing remarkable athleticism and agility that allow her to excel in all six rotations. During the school season, she led her team with 211 kills, while also contributing 148 digs and 38 aces. As a key player for a highly skilled club team, she made significant contributions with crucial kills and defensive digs throughout the season. Her high volleyball IQ, powerful float serve, and aggressive play both at the net and in the back row highlight her comprehensive skills and versatility on the court.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The recent Concordia University-Chicago commit showcased her skills in high-stake club tournaments and Nationals, where her team earned a fifth-place finish in Gold. Her powerful arm swing enables her to overpower blocks with both cross-court attacks and line shots. This impressive opposite hitter recorded 197 kills last season and is set to exceed that total in the upcoming season. Garvin also contributed 81 digs and 30 aces, playing a crucial role in her school team's ninth-place finish in the state. With her talent and determination, she's anticipated to be a standout player for her team in her senior season.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Julie recorded an outstanding 375 kills last year, securing sixth place in state for total kills. She brings together a powerful swing, infectious energy, and a sharp volleyball IQ. Her back-row defense was pivotal to her club team's success throughout the season and is expected to enhance her performance in her junior year. As a 5A state runner-up, she is anticipated to have a stellar junior season, building on her impressive club play. This summer, Julie gained considerable exposure by competing at Nationals and participating in various camps and showcases.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The 6'0" hitter had a stellar sophomore season, racking up 310 kills, 284 digs, and 40 aces. Her contributions were crucial in guiding her team to a remarkable second-place finish at the state championships. Gentry's exceptional versatility in both the front and back row firmly establishes her as one of the top players in her class. Throughout the season, she made a significant impact on her club team, consistently performing at a high level across all six rotations. Her ability to excel in every aspect of the game underscores her potential and sets the stage for an even more impressive junior season.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Ariella is an exceptionally talented athlete who has made her mark on the varsity team since her freshman year. As a standout six-rotation player, she had an impressive junior season, culminating in 273 kills, 304 digs, and 52 service aces. Her explosive play at the net, powerful serve, and high volleyball IQ have consistently set her apart as a top performer. Her combination of talent, experience, and determination makes her a key player to watch, promising an exciting and successful final season. <br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Madison concluded the 2023 high school season with 258 kills, ranking third in the 5A Northern Conference. She is a powerful pin hitter with a quick swing, equally effective in both front and back row attacks. In addition to her offensive prowess, she is a dependable defensive specialist, excelling in serve receive and defensive passing. Her versatility and skill make her a crucial asset to her high school team and a promising prospect for any college program as a reliable six-rotation player.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Siena had an outstanding school season, leading her team with 355 kills, 66 aces, and 246 digs. She established herself early on as a six-rotation player, demonstrating her versatility and skill on the court. Her impressive performance not only contributed significantly to her school team's success but also showcased her ability to excel in multiple aspects of the game. Carrying this momentum into the club season, Siena continued to shine with Tstreet Las Vegas. Her contributions were pivotal in helping the team secure a bid for Nationals and finishing in sixth place in the 17 Liberty division. <br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Angelina had an outstanding junior and club season, marked by several notable achievements. This six-rotation hitter reached significant milestones, including being named 4A Player of the Year, surpassing 1,000 career kills, and winning the 4A State Championship. Her club team also earned a bid to Nationals, where they secured a 6th place finish in the 17 Liberty division.
