Kansas Heavy Hitters: Class Of 2027 Kill Leaders

This week I will be featuring the class of 2027 in my stat leader reports.   I will begin by looking at sophomores having solid attacking seasons and among the state leaders in kills.   Stats and records were found on Max Preps and the KSHSAA website. I can't stress enough how key it is for coaches to update information on both sites.   I also expect to publish updated rankings this month or next, depending on my schedule. Athletes in this age group will get a slight edge in the rankings with claimed profiles and public stats.   KSHSAA announced classifications and standing are now available for the first time on their site. So readers will also begin to get a feel this week for athletes who could play big roles in sub-state and state action.   [player_tooltip player_id='483894' first='Sofia' last='Simic'], 6'0”, OH, Hoisington, ‘27 (Pictured Above)   Simic unofficially leads members of the class of 2027 in kills with 363 in 53 sets played. I have seen her play club ball, but have not seen her play with the Cardinals. She elevates well and has a tough serve. She has tallied 88 aces for Hoisington. The Cardinals own a record of 23-2 and will play in Class 3A Region Four which also features the Beloit Trojans (20-3) and Norton Bluejays (13-3). Simic is currently ranked No. 8 overall by Prep Dig Kansas.   [player_tooltip player_id='483898' first='Nora' last='Burdiek'], 5'10”, OH, Rossville, ‘27   Burdieck is currenlty ranked No. 30 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She has recorded 243 kills in 42 sets played. Rossville has a record of 9-7 and is currently battling for a top-eight seed in Region I in class 2A. Maranatha Christian Academy (18-5) and Maur Hill Prep (14-5) have the two best records in that region.   [player_tooltip player_id='733190' first='Capri' last='Koechner'], 5'8”, OH, Maur Hill Prep, ‘27   Koechner is currently an unranked prospect, but look for her to be added in October. She has collected 206 kills in 42 sets for the Ravens.  It appears she is a six-rotation player for Maur Hill, has her stat line includes 117 assists, 127 serve receptions, and 172 digs in 19 matches played.  The Ravens could be an interesting team to watch as they have 14 wins, but their resume lacks a signature win.   [player_tooltip player_id='483901' first='Maggie' last='Brisk'], 5'10”, OH, Maranatha Christian Academy, ‘27   So apparently the class 2A region one is loaded with elite sophomore attackers or way too many large schools are not posting stats on Max Preps. Brisk is currently ranked No. 33 overall in the class of 2027. She has 200 kills in 58 sets for the Eagles. If she stays healthy she should easily surpass her freshman season total of 242 kills. Maranatha has five losses, but they have come against the likes of Nemaha Central, Rock Creek, and Paola.   [player_tooltip player_id='483905' first='Raimee' last='Lipker'], 5'10”, OH, Clay Center, ‘27   Clay Center is currently for the best record in the Class 4A West Sub-State with a 16-2 record. Lipker had tallied 193 kills in 42 sets for the Tigers. She also has 144 digs and 17 blocks. She is currently ranked No. 39 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. I look forward to seeing Clay Center play for the first time this season at the Concordia Tournament on October 5, schedule permitting.
