Here is a look at the teams in the two pools and a prospect from each team.

Stay tuned in for more Class 3A previews today and tomorrow.

Pool One: No. 1) Inman (39-2), No. 4) Maranatha Christian, (37-6), No. 5) Oakley (30-9), No. 8) Central Christian (23-17).

[player_tooltip player_id='357544' first='Suttyn' last='Harris'], 5'11”, MB, Inman, ‘26 (Pictured Above)

The Inman Tetuans are the No. 1 Seed in the Class 2A Tournament and my favorite to win the tournament. Harris is a six-rotation beast who has verbally committed to the University of Utah. She leads Inman in kills with 415 and in digs with 316. Harris is ranked No. 4 overall by Prep Dig. Inman opens Pool One play with a match against Central Christian Academy scheduled for 9:30. Inman has a record of 5-1 against state tournament and teams and one of their two losses was to Halstead.

[player_tooltip player_id='483901' first='Maggie' last='Brisk'], 5'10”, OH, Marantha Christian, ‘25

Brisk is ranked No. 33 in the Kansas Class of 2027. She leads Marantha with 346 kills and is third on the team with 237 digs. The Eagles are the No. 4 Seed and open the tournament against Oakley at 8:30. Marantha has a record of 2-5 against state tournament teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='546031' first='Jaye' last='McCurdy'], 5'7”, S/OH, Central Christian, ‘26

If one player can dominate a tournament and help guide a team to a championship, McCurdy could be that athlete. She is on the leaderboard in almost every category for the Lions. Her junior season stat line includes 345 kills, 260 digs, and 269 assists. She is currently ranked No. 185 in the Kansas Class of 2026. Central Christian is the No. 8 Seed in the tournament. The Lions punched their ticket to the tournament with upset wins over higher seeds St. Mary's-Colgan and Southeast (Cherokee).

Unsuccessful attempts were made to reach Oakley for information on its roster before publication. Oakley is the No. 8 seed and owns a soft resume. They have not played any team in a state tournament. Oakley opens the tournament with an 8:30 match against Maranatha.

Pool Two: No. 2) Ellinwood (39-3), No. 3) Sedgwick (36-5), No. 6) Valley Heights (29-9), No. 7) Doniphan West (27-12).

[player_tooltip player_id='556362' first='Mette' last='Maxwell'], 5'7”, S, Ellinwood, ‘28

Maxwell missed some matches early in the season with an injury, but has posted huge numbers in her freshman season. She has recorded 482 assists and guides a balanced offense with three players with at least 200 kills. Maxwell has 141 kills as well and is currently ranked No. 16 overall in the Class of 2028. Ellinwood is the No. 2 Seed in the tournament and will open against Doniphan West in a 9:30 match. Sedgwick will push Ellinwood for the top spot in Pool Two. The Eagles are battle-tested and have losses to Beloit and Clay Center.

[player_tooltip player_id='206380' first='Kalyn' last='Sampson'], 5'11”, S/OH, Sedgwick, ‘26

The Cardinals are playing in a state tournament for the first time in 19 years. Sampson is a key cog on this team as a six-rotation stalwart. She is currenlty ranked No. 22 in the Kansas Class of 2026 and her junior season stat line includes 422 kills, 423 assists, and 263 digs. Sedgwick is the No. 3 Seed and will begin Pool Two play against Valley Heights in an 8:30 start. Sedgwick is 2-2 against teams in this field with two wins over Central Christian and two losses to Inman. I have a feeling this team won't be satisfied by just making it to the dance, but will want to lead the Electric Slide.

[player_tooltip player_id='557767' first='Ava' last='Smith'], 5'9”, OH, Valley Heights, ‘26

Smith is ranked No. 120 in the class of 2026 rankings. She is a dual-sport athlete who also excels in basketball. Valley Heights is the No. 6. Seed and begins tournament play with an 8:30 match against Sedgwick. Heights has played some tough competition this season with losses to state tournament teams Clay Center, Concordia, Holton, and Great Bend. The Dragons have two wins over fellow Pool Two competitor Doniphan West.

[player_tooltip player_id='550867' first='Katie' last='Johnson'], 5'10”, MB, Doniphan West, ‘25

Johnson is a talented middle with a big reach. She leads the Mustangs in kills with 455. She is a member of the 1,000 career kill club and is an uncommitted talent. Doniphan West is the No. 7 Seed in the tournament and opens competition against Ellinwood in Pool Two. The Mustangs have a 0-2 record against teams in the field with two losses to Valley Heights.
