Alayna reads well on defense and makes it look easy! She always knows where her opponent is about to attack and positions herself accordingly. Along with her excellent defensive reads, Alayna finishes her digs high up to the net allowing her setters to have every option they need to run their offense. In transition, Alayna is quick back to base making it easy to read tips and dumps. Alayna is also familiar with and quite good at 2-man passing which is an excellent skill for a libero to possess. She takes up a lot of court using her speedy footwork which allows her outside hitters to release for attack. Emily is the kind of libero who has reach and speed. This combo makes her dangerous in defense. As a taller libero, she can reach more balls than shorter liberos when she sprawls. Her reach also benefits her when the attacker is swinging line on her as she can stay neutral and use her hands to dig balls over her head and be in a good spot to pick up tips. She also has strong consistent hands that she uses frequently to push the ball up to the setter. Emily is calm and consistent in serve-receive. She has a beautiful finish to the net when passing and sets her setters up well. She is a confident leader and took her high school team to the 6A state championship this year! Karis covers her hitters well managing to keep balls alive longer than most. She is also strong defensively because she is quick! She not only takes care of her part of the court but also runs after balls to save potential kills. She gets the ball back into play and keeps her team in the rally! Along with her defensive and covering skills, Karis also scores some points of her own with a fast, flat jump float serve that catches teams off guard. What particularly struck me about her game was how good she was at picking up tips and dumps. She sprawls and reaches the short balls just about to hit the floor. She is quick to get back up and back into the play awaiting her next dig. Sophie is as defensive of a libero as it gets! Her opponents have a hard time hitting in her direction at all because of her quick reads. She has strong hands which she frequently uses to dig. Along with her hands, Sophia is quick on defense and uses her one-arm digging abilities to pursue balls. Sophia is always consistent and strong in serve-receive. While teams try not to serve her, she takes up a lot of court and passes outside her zone allowing her hitters to release for attack.
