Player Spotlight: RVVC 15 Premier

The [program_tooltip program_id='495219' first='Rancho' last='Valley Volleyball'] 15 Premier team, coached by Kenny Ma and Diana Maile, had an impressive performance at the entry event held at The Draft in Corona, California, on December 14th and 15th. The team finished with a 5-1 record demonstrating skill, teamwork, and determination. Their success reflects the dedication of both players and coaches in preparing for the season. Under the guidance of Ma and Maile, the team showcased their potential to compete. Meet some players to watch this season, including two 8th graders who are playing up. It is the season to showcase those hidden gems.    Fern Udell, a 6'0" middle blocker and hitter, is making waves as an 8th grader with her impressive presence at the net. She is 13, attends Serrano Middle School, and is playing up on a 15s team. Fern wears jersey #3. With her height, she can block and shut down opposing hitters, creating a formidable wall on defense with her high hands. Offensively, Fern is just as impactful, putting the ball down with power attacks all while learning precision and placement. When she gets on top of the ball, she's unstoppable. Despite her young age, Fern's abilities and being a coachable player hint at a bright future in the sport. With her skill set and potential, Fern is poised to become a force to be reckoned with as she advances in her volleyball journey.     [player_tooltip player_id='580628' first='Janae' last='Childs'], an outside hitter wearing #6, showcased her versatility and determination during her game against Coast. Demonstrating her adaptability, Janae delivered a well-placed set from the back row that led to a point for her team. Offensively, she finds ways to score against tough defenses by attacking the ball or tooling the block. Janae's hustle and grit are evident in her willingness to dive on the floor to save a ball, ensuring her team stays in the rally. She is a reliable player knowing how to cover and shuffle into position ready to defend an attack. Janae is a player to watch and keep an eye on as she continues to develop in volleyball.     [player_tooltip player_id='571227' first='Tylia' last='Hemmans'], wears #21. She has a strong swing and strategic attacks. What makes her especially challenging for opponents is her unpredictability—she can place the ball cross-court or down the line, keeping defenses guessing. Tylia also demonstrates strong court awareness, reading the game well and placing the ball where it's least expected. On defense, she contributes by sliding over to provide solid block coverage, showcasing her versatility. With her instincts and offensive prowess, Tylia is a key asset on the court. Keep an eye on her.       Alaniss Manchuca is a setter whose playmaking abilities help her run the offense. She wears #9. Her serves are effective, often putting opponents on the defensive right from the start. One of her standout skills that I observed is her back set to right side, where she delivers a hittable ball that allows her pins to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Alaniss's ability to read the court and distribute the ball strategically makes her a leader on offense, ensuring her team stays in rhythm and competitive in every match. Keep an eye on Alannis as she continues to perfect her setting skills.     [player_tooltip player_id='563656' first='Priscilla' last='Diaz'], is a setter with good control and precision. She wears #1. She demonstrates agility, consistently getting to the ball and delivering quick, clean touches with minimal to no spin. Priscilla's ability to push the ball out to any location on the court makes her a versatile and strategic player. Her backset is particularly noteworthy, as it is smooth and well-placed, allowing her hitters to execute strong attacks. With her sharp instincts and technical skills, Priscilla is a key driver of her team's offensive success. Keep an eye on Priscilla as she continues to get better at her position.     Charlee is a left-handed right-side hitter, is a force to be reckoned with on both offense and defense. Her ability to block the opposing outside hitter makes her a critical asset at the net, disrupting opponents' key scoring opportunities. Offensively, Charlee's powerful swing is a game-changer, as she finds ways to hit through the block with force. Her combination of defensive strength and offensive precision showcases her versatility and impact on the court, making her a standout player in any rotation. She wears #7. Kylie is an outside hitter with all-around versatility and a high volleyball IQ. With a strong arm swing, she delivers powerful attacks from both the outside and right side, while her ability to score from the pipe adds another layer to her offensive arsenal. Defensively, she shines in the back row, digging tough balls and providing passes with a solid platform during serve receive. She knows when to swing hard for maximum impact or tip cleverly over the block as a smart and strategic player. Her attacks are placed, often finding success cross-court or at sharp angles, making her a well-rounded and dynamic force on the court. [player_tooltip player_id='569622' first='Makena' last='Wacker'] is an 8th grader playing up on a 15s team. She is a 6-rotation, outside hitter who wears the #28. Makena is a key contributor on the court with her all-around skills and competitive edge. With a powerful swing, Makena delivers strong hits and can tool or hit cleanly between the blocks. This makes her an offensive threat. Her serves are another weapon, often forcing opponents out of system and resulting in several aces during games. On serve receive, Makena passed the ball on point, setting up her team for effective offensive plays. She was not afraid to dive or dig after a ball. With her versatility and impact in every rotation, Makena is an asset to her team and a player to follow as she continues to grow and develop in the sport.    Volleyball is a game of strategy and skill, talent and grit. Players make mistakes all the time and it is okay. Mistakes allow them to learn and build their skills to become better athletes. Fifteen is an age group where players are constantly learning. They are learning the game and they are learning about themselves.
