This past weekend was packed with season-opening tournaments in the state of Texas and Prep Dig was at one of them, the Skyline Classic Season Opener, to check out some of the teams in action.

We decided to follow the 15s division and, with just six teams competing, were able to take a good look at some of the teams of the always-competitive Skyline Volleyball Club franchise that were in action. We'll take the week to feature some of the most promising players who were on the court, starting with the setters:

Hana Penberthy is one of the setters of the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] 15 Royal team that dominated the tournament, ranking first with three wins and no sets dropped. She was always incredibly calm on the court and didn't seem, ever for a second, to be playing one age group up. A lefty, Penberthy has all the tools to develop into an elite setter, having a great, clean touch on the ball and a long frame. She also displayed great consistency with her sets and did an excellent job of keeping all her hitters involved.

McKown was the main playmaker for the BCS Skyline 15 Royal team that ended up in third place with two wins and one loss. She displayed a great all-around game, delivering strong production in different areas. McKown was always very accurate with her sets and, even in out-of-system plays, managed to send the ball to the pin. She played middle with her high school team Iola, which advanced all the way to the State Championship Game last month, and has a strong blocking presence at the net. McKown also played solid defense and was very aggressive with her setter dumps.

Hampton was one of the key players in her KVA 15 Nike team that ranked fourth with one win and two losses. Giver her team's passing struggles for most of the day, her task at setting wasn't simple, but she did the best she could, showing solid technical foundations to turn passes off the net into hittable sets. Hampton also had good production on defense, generating many transition plays for her team. She played with great energy and did a solid job of communicating with her teammates and encouraging them.

Miller and her TW Skyline 15 Black finished fifth with one win and two losses. She only got to play the backcourt rotations, but was still able to make a solid impression every time she came in. Miller did a solid job with her serving, frequently getting opponents out of system, and also contributed on defense. Her distribution was simple, but efficient, and she always got her hitters in good positions to score.
