Beginning in 7th grade, Minnesota students are eligible to play varsity sports. While it isn't common, there are some junior high kids that made their marks this year on the varsity volleyball scene. Below are some of the up and coming class of 2029 players that we are going to hear about for years to come.

Drinkall found herself getting playing time as a 7th grader on varsity. However, this past high school season as an 8th grader, Drinkall was the starting libero for the Rushford-Peterson varsity squad. Earning Three Rivers all conference honorable mention honors, Drinkall recorded 355 digs, 38 assists, and 18 aces on the year. With a high volleyball IQ and by continuing to make efficient movements on the court, I anticipate Drinkall will break many school records with all 4 years of high school left.

Kenyon-Wanamingo had a great 24' season with a 21-7 record. One of the leaders of the team was 8th grader Mali Quam. She led the team in kills and kills/set and had over a .200 hitting percentage. While she has the ability to score, she also helped her team on defense. She was third on her team in blocks and also averaged 4.2 digs per set. Making the top 14s team for Northern Lights, Quam stands to have a great 14u club season and be an even bigger standout when she returns in the fall for Kenyon-Wanamingo.

An outside hitter at Dover Eyota, I watched Frie hit and was instantly impressed this past fall. She is explosive in her approach and puts the ball down with so much power. Being young, she spent the majority of her time on JV but did get a few sets in on varsity. Frie will be playing for [program_tooltip program_id='429180' first='Southern' last='Minnesota Volleyball'] this winter and will only continue to develop her skills.

I watched 8th grader Reinhart serve receive and pass during the playoffs at the Mayo Civic Center. She is technically very sound and has good, quick movements. With volleyball powerhouse Caledonia graduating many high level players this spring, Reinhart will likely fill a bigger role next season on varsity as a freshman.
