Takeaways From Legacy 17-2 ADIDAS’ Central Zone Invite Title

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 2025 club season is off to a great start for Legacy.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But, it's not just the 1's that are making a big splash thus far.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Legacy 17-2 ADIDAS has been holding its own in the early stages as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After holding its open in the 17 Open of The Nike Classic earlier this month, 17-2 ADIDAS came through with the 17 Premier Red championship of the Central Zone Invitational last weekend, dropping only two sets over eight matches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Parsley shines</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If looking for reasons as why 17-2 ADIDAS is playing so well, look no further than the setter. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='261199' first='Morgin' last='Parsley'] </strong>has taken her game to another level. The Oakland University commit has a great feel for her team and what is the best plan of attack. She definitely shows a lot of good instincts when it comes to reacting to the ball at the net. She can quickly put it away herself or come through with a timely block. Parsley has a lot of good hitters to work with, but she's getting the best out of them as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Different hitters stepping up</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Legacy offense is so effective because Parsley is able to rely on so many different hitters. This past weekend, there were a number of members that managed to lead the team in kills for a given match. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226895' first='Jillian' last='Ferrill'] </strong>was someone that consistently put balls away. The Illinois State commit has a balanced game and plays a lot of different shots, but is usually on point with her placement. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226944' first='Maya' last='Zarow'] </strong>is a new addition to the team, but she's fitting in nicely and getting to show her aggressive side on the pin. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226896' first='Madison' last='Geer'] </strong>is another balanced outside that can get hot quickly and plays with a lot of intensity. She knows how to unload on the ball and did so a fair amount in Indianapolis. <strong>Darby Crystal </strong>is a 6'2” option on the right side that is new to the team, but she's been very imposing with her defensive presence and allow Legacy to be effective with its passing.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the middle, this group added a new duo in <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226899' first='Cree' last='Hollier'] </strong>and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226945' first='Jayla' last='Zayti']</strong>. The two Catholic Leaguers have really provided a great flow to the offense, going along with fellow middle <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='446700' first='Liliana' last='Gegovic']</strong>. Hollier is very explosive off the floor and has quickness to compliment her fast swing, combining for powerful attacks. Gegovic is a major blocking force, but also brings a lot of competitive fire to the position. She battles hard to win the toss-up plays. Zayti has made a lot of strides to become a more complete middle. She's got as much pop in her attacks as anyone, and has developed a lot of consistency.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Selling out</strong> <strong>defensively</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When it comes to the libero jersey, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226913' first='Abbigayl' last='Sells'] </strong>has been sporting it for 17-2 ADIDAS and she completes the foundation of the team. Sells takes the ball hitting the floor very personally and her drive to be the best is something that inspires her teammates. Sells was locked in last weekend and helped make life smoother for her offense. Sells is complimented by <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='446705' first='Ava' last='Merlo']</strong>, another scrappy defender that is capable of being the libero as well. Along with some timely digs, Merlo has been good for Legacy at coming through with an important ace.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What to expect going forward?</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Legacy isn't shying away from expectations. It fully believes it can be one of the best in the state, and in the Midwest. No matter what division it finds itself in, 17-2 ADIDAS is going to go in with expectations to win, and that includes at the national championship level. Last weekend was a great example of how dominant this team can be. It has so many offensive weapons and a high-IQ setter that it is going to find ways to win, no matter the opponent. Triple Crown is next on the docket in mid-February. That should give this team a picture of where it fits in the national landscape.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
