Day 2 of pool play was filled with some great setting, excellent passing, and exceptional attacking. I spent a considerable amount of time watching the 15 & 16 open division. These players are fine tuning their crafts, trying to catch the eye of college coaches, and cutting film to send to recruiting coordinators. Below are some of the standouts from day 2 in the 15/16 open division that jumped on our radar that we will need to keep a close eye on for the rest of the season and upcoming ones.

Grider was definitely a go-to player and playmaker for her Balance team as she produced over and over in several ways. As a 6 rotation outside, she was solid in serve receive, put down some amazing shots from the pins, and was a defensive machine. I was also really impressed with her shot selection and choices. Grider is definitely one to keep tabs on her game continues to grow and develop.

I watched some close matches by Eastside and Kempf does not crack under pressure. She remained poised, ran a clean offense, moved around the ball to get everyone in her offense involved, and threw down some well timed setter dumps. Of all the setters that I saw today in the 15/16 open division, Kempf seemed to have the best connection with her hitters, understood what they needed, and delivered.

Clayton is a 2028 setter that has quick feet and great hands. She moves quickly to get her feet to the ball to ensure that she delivers a nice clean set to her attackers. She is also one of those setters that is very fast, super scrappy, and makes amazing plays on defense. There were several times today that she got to the ball when I didn't think it was possible.

Snodsmith was fun to watch as she unloaded from the pins for her team. Many times in the younger divisions, you see players start to tip and push the ball in close moments, but not Snodsmith. She is continued to go up and take the big swings that are needed for teams to win. In addition to her powerful shot, she read the block well and used it to her advantage, scoring points off of opponents hands.

Julik can jump out of the gym. She is an explosive and powerful attacker that delivers a serious blow when she connects with the ball. In addition to her power, she is especially lethal as she reads the block in front of her well, can adjust mid stride, and can put down an array of shots to terminate repeatedly. She is also equally dangerous from both pins making her a versatile powerhouse that is hard to stop.

Sprout is a highly effective middle. She has an excellent read on the ball and has good footwork. She was able to move side to side to put up a solid block on defense and on offense, put down some monster kills. Sprout can attack from anywhere in the front row but is especially effective when she is on the move. When Sprout is running a route and connects, she is hard to stop.

Los is an impressive 6 rotation outside. She does so many things well, it is hard to pick a front runner. Her receive was impressive, her defensive was solid as she covered side line to side line in middle back extremely well, and she took big rips with her quick, heavy swing and terminated many balls from all over the court - both front and back row.
