Sophi Randall S | 2025
SD

Do you ever just sit back and truly observe the game of volleyball? Well, that is part of my job. As a scout, I don't just watch what happens on the court—I look beyond the game. I look for the intangibles, the qualities that set certain players apart. Who carries themselves with something special? Who elevates their team? Who refuses to settle for anything less than greatness?

Every month, I have the privilege of giving back to you, the reader and highlight a player who embodies what it takes to reach the next level and share their journey. This isn't just about stats or wins—it's about heart, leadership, and relentless drive. This weekend, I had the honor of watching this month's standout in person again, and let me tell you, she is beyond amazing.

Her leadership isn't just strong—it's next level. She sets the standard, both on and off the court. She's the type of player young athletes look up to, the one they strive to be. She doesn't just compete; she inspires. She pushes her teammates to rise higher, to never settle, to demand more from themselves.

And now, we get to watch her take that same fire to the next stage. This is the kind of player who leaves a legacy.

I'm thrilled to showcase none other than Sophi Randall Sophi Randall Sophi Randall S Dell Rapids | 2025 State #131 Nation SD from Dell Rapids, South Dakota! Let's take a moment to highlight her incredible accomplishments this season:

  • 3x Dak XII All-Conference First Team
  • Dak XII All-Conference Second & Third Team
  • 2x First Team All-State
  • Class A Miss Volleyball
  • 2x First Team All-Tournament Team
  • 15U Open All-American
  • Argus Leader Super Six First Team
  • Academic All-State

And the list continues:

  • 3,000+ Assists
  • 1,000+ Digs
  • NTDP Participant
  • 2024 Class A State Champion
  • 2023 Class A State Third Place

Sophi competes for Kairos Volleyball Club, one of the premier programs in the Dakotas. When you hear the name Kairos, you know elite talent is on the court. This club demands excellence, and its players rise to meet the challenge every time. Sophi embodies that standard—she doesn't just play at a high level; she sets the bar even higher.

Q: When did you start playing volleyball, and when did you realize you wanted to play in college?
Sophi's Response: "I started playing volleyball at age 9 and knew by 12 that I wanted to compete at the collegiate level."

Q: Can you explain your process in your recruitment? When did you start? How did you start?
Sophi's Response: " I began my recruitment process in eighth grade when I was playing for my club's 14U top team. My recruiting coordinator at the time had told me a few college coaches had shown interest in me, so I made my first highlight video and set up a recruiting profile online. I didn't begin emailing coaches or attending camps until my freshman year."

Q: Can you describe the moment you decided to commit to your college? What made that program stand out?
Sophi's Response: "I had finished up my call with the Illinois coaches and they had given me an offer I had been dreaming of since I was 12. They told me there was no rush to make a decision and that the offer would stand until I decided to accept or deny it. However, I knew the moment the call ended that Illinois was the perfect fit for me. The program has a healthy balance of light-heartedness and grit. I clicked with the coaching staff and loved the culture of the program and their determination to win. I called my coaches back within the hour and accepted the offer and verbally committed."

Q: What challenges did you face on your journey, and how did you overcome them?
Sophi's Response: "I was playing 2 years up at 18s AAU Nationals during June 15, so I wasn't able to connect with any colleges or have any calls until later in that week. A lot of the bigger colleges had girls committing fast, so a lot of setter positions were getting filled before I even had a chance to talk with the colleges. I realized that the right college for me would not rush me to make a decision while I was playing in a tournament, so I did not stress and looked at the colleges who were content with waiting for me until the tournament was over."

Q: How have you balanced academics, training, and personal life during your volleyball career so far?
Sophi's Response: "While it can be difficult to balance all the aspects of your life, I have found that if you dedicate days as homework or training days, it is easier to stay motivated. I space my week out and designate certain days as personal time, lifting, reps in the gym, and schoolwork."

Q: Were there any coaches, teammates, or mentors who significantly influenced your growth as a player?
Sophi's Response: "The Kairos club program as a whole significantly influenced my growth as a player. I learned invaluable life and volleyball lessons from them. A couple older girls who I played up with when I was 16 on the 18s team helped influence me to become the player I am today as well: Morissen Samuels, Maddie Paulsen, Stella Winterfeld, and Joslyn Richardson along with others."

Q: What role has mental preparation played in your success?
Sophi's Response: "I became an entirely different and better player and leader after I learned the importance of mental preparation and training. Your brain dictates your performance on the court, and once you learn how to empower it positively, your game will elevate exponentially. Mental preparation and mental training is SO SO important and so often overlooked (do not neglect the mental side of the game)!!"

Q: What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from playing volleyball?
Sophi's Response: "Limit your stresses to the things you can control and improve! Not everything needs to be perfect and go exactly as you planned it to in your head."

Q: What advice would you give younger players who aspire to play volleyball in college?
Sophi's Response: "Work hard and enjoy the recruitment process as much as you can! Yes, it is one of the most stressful things you go through as a young athlete, but remember that colleges want YOU for you, not someone you're pretending to be because you think it will help you get recruited. Be yourself and find a college who values those unique traits you have."

Sophi Randall Sophi Randall Sophi Randall S Dell Rapids | 2025 State #131 Nation SD has redefined what it means to be a setter, not just with her skill, but with her leadership and character. She has set a benchmark for both on-court excellence and off-court inspiration, proving that greatness is about more than just stats—it's about how you elevate those around you. Her legacy will echo through the courts for years to come, and young players in the Dakotas will look up to her, pushing themselves to reach the heights she's set. As April's Spotlight Player, Sophi has already left an indelible mark on the sport, and her influence will continue to shape the future of volleyball.

Thank you, Sophi, for sharing your incredible journey with PrepDigs. Your story will inspire countless young players as they begin their own paths, chasing their dreams. Your impact on the volleyball community will resonate for years to come.
