Texas Middles in Action at the Lone Star Regionals

The George R Brown Convention Center, in Houston, will be rocking this weekend as it hosts the second week of one of the largest tournaments of the entire club volleyball season in Texas, the Lone Star Regionals.   Over 650 teams will be competing this week in one of the 20 divisions of the event, which will have teams from the 11s to the 17s age groups getting on the court between Saturday and Sunday.   Prep Dig Texas will be on site, covering the tournament and looking for the next hidden gems in Texas. Before that, we'd like to point out some players who could be poised for strong performances this week in the days leading up to the event, and today we reveal our picks among the middles:    Roberson will be on the court with Austin Skyline 15 Royal in the 15 Bid division. She's a solid offensive player, who typically scores at a good rate and can be very difficult to stop when she gets into a rhythm. Roberson can hit some different sets in the middle and does a very good job of fully stretching her arm every time she goes up to swing, which allows her to put the ball down even in transition plays, in which she couldn't make a full approach. Roberson also gets to find good spots for her swings, making it very difficult for opposing defenders to get a touch on them.      Kone will be with [program_tooltip program_id='538544' first='Katy' last='United'] 16 Adidas in the 16 Bid division in Houston. An extremely athletic middle, she has excellent footwork, which helps her stand out at the net on both sides of the ball. Kone is well-versed offensively, being capable of hitting different sets in the middle, getting off the floor very well and putting a lot of pressure into her swings. She can also make a difference with her blocking, moving quickly to the pins and putting on a big block in front of opposing hitters. She also uses her ability to get off the floor very quickly to handle overpasses and tight sets.      Romo and her United VBA 16 Adidas side are entered in the event's 16 Bid division. A six-footer, she gives the team some much-needed presence at the net and is an interesting offensive weapon for the team. Romo has a very high contact point with her swings and is capable of hitting different sets in the middle and the right, where she can also play, giving her setter the possibility of mixing things up offensively. She also makes an impact with her blocking, reading opponents and timing her jumps extremely well and doing an excellent job of taking up space from opposing hitters.      Points will be a part of the [program_tooltip program_id='745880' first='Houston' last='Stellar'] 17 Elite team that will be in action in the 17 Bid division. She is back with the club after spending the last season with [program_tooltip program_id='462263' first='TAV' last='Houston'] and her return has added some interesting firepower to their offense. Points plays with great intensity every time she steps on the court and that shows in her offense as she makes contact with the ball at a very high point and puts a lot of power into her swings. The middle also has a solid blocking presence, moving well at the net and thriving with last-second moves to get in the way of opposing hitters.      Kettler is part of the NHouston 17 Elite team that will be on the court in the 17 Bid division. A six-footer, she's probably their most physical player, and her game makes a big impact for them at the net. Kettler's offense is extremely powerful and can overpower opponents offensively with her heavy right arm - she can also mix things up with smart tips and can be difficult to stop when she gets into a rhythm. She can also make a difference with her blocking because of her size and her ability to shut opponents down at the net.
