Highlighting Standout Setters and Liberos at Up Next: SoCal

The Up Next: SoCal Showcase held at Prime Volleyball Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA on August 23, 2025, featured a talented group of young athletes who made their mark as standout setters and liberos. From crafty playmakers who ran efficient offenses to disciplined back row anchors who controlled serve receive, these athletes showed poise, competitiveness, and skill well beyond their years. Their performances not only elevated their teams during the showcase but also highlighted the bright futures ahead for this group of playmakers.    Makala disguises her sets well and looks comfortable running the offense. While she showed she can contribute in multiple positions, her setting ability clearly stood out as her natural role. At 5'10” she has the size and skill to run a 5-1 and be a real presence at the net as a blocker. — Kantessa Bryant-Miller     <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/08/IMG_8433-rotated-crop-3024x1986-1756084499.jpeg?w=800" alt="" class="wp-image-880128" /></figure>   Emma impressed with her ability to deliver dimes to her hitters. She showed great form, communicated loud and clear, and was steady in every drill. Her court presence was felt and she allowed her hitters to shine with consistent location. Emma is one to watch as she continues to grow and refine her game. — Kantessa Bryant-Miller     Wanli is a very advanced jump setter for her age. She ran a fast tempo offense whenever she was setting and proved she can already compete with high school setters. Wanli is an exciting prospect with a skill set that will continue to grow as she gets older. — Kantessa Bryant-Miller     Kapua not only set well but her blocking stood out as well. She was aggressive at the net, came through with key sets in big moments, and helped her team win the showcase championship. Kapua brought physicality to the position and had a presence that opponents had to respect. She will be a difference maker for any team she's on, especially in a 5-1 offensive system. — Kantessa Bryant-Miller     Kaitlyn is a clean, confident passer who fully owns her role in the back row. She delivered consistent, on-point passes and even stepped up in the front row when given the chance. Her disciplined serve receive and relentless defensive effort set her apart throughout the event.
