34 teams entered the Queens of the Court Tournament varsity division all looking to give itself one final tune-up before the beginning of the high school girls volleyball season. Teams from several different parts of Southern California, such as Orange County, Los Angeles County and Long Beach, partook in the two-day event held at Momentous Sports Center in Irvine.

In the end, Long Beach Poly was the one celebrating as the tournament champion, as its after-game celebration, following Abryannah Mama's block, felt like a party. After all, "ain't no party like a Long Beach Party."

The Jackrabbits' second day of the tournament boasted most challenging, as in the quarterfinals, they went the distance with San Clemente and trailed 10-6 in the third set. But slowly but surely, they came back, igniting the Long Beach Poly faithful.

Eventually, Long Beach Poly won that match on a walkoff block and wound up winning the semifinals and championship matches in three sets as well. In all those three set matches played on day two, the Jackrabbits dropped the first set but adapted well to their opponent, catching on to who the ball was going to and eventually finishing strong.

Some might've forgotten that Long Beach Poly won the CIF-SS Division 3 championship last year, adding to its already rich girls volleyball history. The team looks to do so again, as it may have lost most of its standouts from last year's team due to graduation, but it has players that are on-the-rise and ready to bring home another championship back to 1600 Atlantic Ave.

Here were some of the players from the teams that made the semifinals that stood out.

Long Beach Poly: [player_tooltip player_id='328173' first='Cedra' last='Talaga'], [player_tooltip player_id='807639' first='Aleeya' last='Salima'], [player_tooltip player_id='740877' first='Alison' last='Wetteland']

It seemed like the bigger the match the better Talaga played, as she - having made all All-CIF last year - was the jack of all trades for Long Beach Poly. The biggest match that Salima came up big in probably came in the championship match against St.Margaret's, where she totaled nine kills (unofficially) and made big plays down the stretch. Wetteland's height at the net made it tough for opposing teams to score at the net, but her height came in handy offensively as well, totaling nine kills and three blocks (unofficially) in the championship match.

St.Margaret's: [player_tooltip player_id='807610' first='Ella' last='Massoudi'], Emery Ambe

Massoudi was fearless for St.Margaret's all weekend, as she was the go-to player for the most part - going up against even the toughest of opposing teams' blocks. Ambe was the Tartans' anchor for the most part at the libero position, getting dig after dig and positioning herself well whenever most teams tried to score on her.

Redlands: Natalia Caravia, [player_tooltip player_id='878982' first='Kameryn' last='Carpenter']

The setter-hitter duo of Caravia and Carpenter proved quite effective for Redlands this tournament and is sure to be effective this coming season. With the graduation of Saniah Sobers and Devi'arre Lucas, the spotlight will be on Carpenter, who isn't and won't be afraid of the moment, especially with Caravia, who will have the spotlight on her as well.

Foothill: Alana Jackson, Leah Joy

Jackson and Joy elevated their gameplay for the Knights and are sure to be carry that over into the regular season. Something that impressed me about Joy, who is in her first year at Foothill, was her backrow defense while Jackson made her presence known at the net with her effective swings.

Other notable players from the Queens of the Court Varsity Division whose teams made the semifinals: Sarah McDonald (St.Margaret's), Peyton Harrison (Foothill), Sophia Keef (Foothill), Abryannah Mama (Long Beach Poly), Hannah Ballungay (Long Beach Poly), [player_tooltip player_id='803651' first='Gia' last='Johnson'] (Redlands), Hayley Langdon (Foothill)

Other notes from the Queens of the Court varsity division:

Long Beach Poly and San Clemente to meet again this season

If you liked seeing Long Beach Poly and San Clemente in the quarterfinals of the Queens of the Court quarterfinals, you'll like seeing them on Thursday August 21 at Long Beach Poly High. The Jackrabbits and Tritons have scheduled one another the past two seasons with both teams splitting each match.

The Tritons, who made the quarterfinals of the tournament, could be slated to have a bounce-back season this year. Despite losing Quinn Loper to graduation, the Tritons return Long Beach State commit [player_tooltip player_id='494341' first='Ashton' last='Nelson'], as well as nine incoming seniors.
