Scouting Reports: Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles 2025

The Golden Hawks reached the state tournament on the backs of a super group of seniors. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It made sense that they might suffer growing pains early in 2025 while the inexperienced pieces learned how to fit together. That began happening when I saw Wahlert at the Live Like Line Tournament at Iowa City West in early September. She ranked fifth on that outfit in kills. Through the Golden Hawks' first 19 matches of this year, she was leading them in kills with 161 (.293). Her 32.0 blocks ranked second on the team. Belken is an intimidating middle that can put the ball down with power and reject an opponent's offering with force. She's a good athlete that moves well laterally and can jump. She has a smooth operation with her attack, getting good height on her vertical jump with a repeatable swing that allows for consistency. Lueken still is learning to read the block and adjust, but you can see her making progress in that area as this campaign advances. Lueken ranks among her team's leaders in kills with 95 through 19 matches. The junior stands out as a two-way middle that is almost as likely to end a point with a block as she is with her attack. Freed led the Golden Hawks with 52.0 blocks through her outfit's first 19 matches of the year and ranked third with 74 kills. Freed is an explosive athlete that jumps well and is technically sound, particularly on the block. She's made great progress with her consistency and expanded her game to become a sound overall volleyball player. Fully capable of running the show at setter, the Golden Hawks utilize her in other positions with their current roster makeup. That includes a lot of work at the opposite pin. There, Elbert ranks among Wahlert leaders with 21.0 blocks. She's also chipped in 20 kills. Working with a lineup that lacks a lot of varsity experience, Coutchie runs the show smoothly and keeps the trains running on time. A good communicator, she makes her way through traffic and gets to her spots. Coutchie consistently puts the ball where her attackers can take advantage. Her older brother, Ryan Brosius, red shirted as a University of Iowa Baseball freshman last year. Claire stands out in softball and also qualified for the state track meet as a ninth-grader. Brosius brings quick-twitch athleticism to the volleyball court. She moves well laterally and has sharp reflexes to hold it down in the back row. Through the team's first 19 matches of 2025, Brosius was leading Wahlert with 125 digs and her 16 assists speak to her ability to set teammates off of the two ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
