There is a new leader in the clubhouse for Deck's “Match Of The Year.”

I scouted two matches at the Seaman Invitational on September 27.

The second match I watched was an instant classic between Wichita area rivals Bishop Carroll and Maize South.

Bishop Carroll dropped the first set to Maize South but then won to straight to open the tournament with a win.

The match featured multiple lead changes, long rallies, and solid hitting and blocking.

Here is a look at four Bishop Carroll prospects who were Stat Monsters in the match.

Return to Prep Dig tomorrow for a report on athletes from Maize South.

[player_tooltip player_id='480404' first='Lauren' last='DeGroot'], 5'11”, OH/MB, Bishop Carroll, ‘27

Lauren “I Am” DeGroot played like a “Guardian of the Galaxy” for the Golden Eagles. She is a six-rotation talent ranked No. 32 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She registered a team-high 12 kills to go along with seven digs and 14 serve receptions. She is the rock that rolls this squad. She can jump with the elite in the state and make consistent passes like a libero. She is currently uncommitted, and college coaches in Kansas should be standing in line to talk with her.

[player_tooltip player_id='355646' first='Allyson' last='Orth'], 5'10”, S, Bishop Carroll, '26

Orth put on a setting show for Bishop Carroll. She finished with 30 assists in the win, tying for the most I have seen in a single match this season. She moves like a water bug and adjusts well to imperfect passes. She has a serve that will play at the next level, and she plays solid defense in the pinch. She added four digs and three kills to her stat line against the rival Mavericks. She is ranked No. 21 overall by Prep Dig Kansas and has verbally committed to playing for the Army Knights.

[player_tooltip player_id='809457' first='Brea' last='Martin'], 5'6”, DS/L, Bishop Carroll, '26

Martin was a defensive stalwart for the Golden Eagles. She racked up 21 digs and 14 serve receptions. She has an accurate serve. She is willing to put her body on the line for the difficult dig. She is ranked No. 186 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026, but has been earmarked for a rise up the rankings when they are updated at the conclusion of the prep season. I understand she has an offer from Wichita State University.

[player_tooltip player_id='859689' first='Breckyn' last='Cawood'], 5'10”, OH, Bishop Carroll, '26

Cawood had a solid all-around match for Bishop Caroll. She tallied seven kills, five serve receptions, one dig, and one block. She has verbally committed to play for Kansas Wesleyan. I liked her combination of physicality, and she could evolve into a net monster at the NAIA level.
