Freshman Setters Putting Up Big Assists In 2025

Here's a look at the some of the assist leaders in the class (stats through MaxPreps) right now.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='777145' first='Andersyn' last='King'], Harper Creek</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>King is definitely establishing herself as one of the top freshmen in the state this year. She's leading a talented Harper Creek offense and has <strong>895 assists </strong>on the season. King already has tallied 40+ assists in four matches this year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='709559' first='Kaelyn' last='Easton'], Mercy</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Easton has had some big shoes to fill at Mercy, but the freshman is doing a great job of creating her own path while leading the Marlins' offense. Easton has <strong>755 assists </strong>this fall and is about to compete with Team USA's Under 17 squad later this month.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Delainey Buchanen, DeWitt</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers are getting great production out of Buchanen, a promising young setter in the Lansing area. She's got <strong>675 assists </strong>on the season, highlighted by a 40-assist effort in a four-set win over Okemos last month.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='782946' first='Catie' last='Jilek'], Portage Central</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jilek is doing her part to keep Portage Central among the contenders on the west side of the state. She's got <strong>539 assists </strong>this fall, with a season-high 38 assists in a five-set win over St. Joseph last month.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Lillie Alsup, St. Johns</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A well-rounded player that is coming through in all phases of the game, Alsup shows a lot of promise for St. Johns. She's got <strong>476 assists </strong>on the year, including a season-high 39 assists in a four-set win over Haslett.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='787909' first='Olivia' last='Babcock'], Jonesville</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A great defensive talent along with running the Jonesville offense, Babcock looks like a player that is going to make a big impact for years to come. She has <strong>459 assists </strong>on the season. Babcock really shined with 49 assists in a five-set match with Napoleon in September.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='888953' first='Kennedy' last='Thomas'], East Lansing</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thomas is a combo player that is doing a bit of everything. You'll be hard-pressed to find a freshman that has a better overall stat line. When it comes to setting, Thomas has <strong>394 assists </strong>this year, with a 30-assist outing against Waverly earlier this month as her top mark.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='782164' first='Isabelle' last='Brown'], Cadillac</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brown is another combo player to come through the Cadillac program that looks like she could be among the greats. She's racking up big stats in all areas, including <strong>358 assists </strong>as a setter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cady Fischer, Bedford</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Fischer is a freshman to keep an eye on. She's getting her opportunities to shine this fall in somewhat of a limited capacity, but she's making her time work. Fischer has <strong>319 assists</strong>, recently posting 26 assists as part of a five-set match with Saline.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sylvie Kentala, Dollar Bay</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the very north of the Upper Peninsula, Kentala is making a splash for Dollar Bay. She's got <strong>290 assists </strong>as part of a multi-setter offense. She had a 41-assist performance against Baraga late in September as a season-high performance.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
