Middle Georgia Movers: Underclassmen that truly Stand Out

Lamar County and Thomasville have become must-watch programs. Lamar is 6-1 in region play with a 75% overall win rate, while Thomasville's athletic core has powered them to 9-1. Behind the veteran leadership on both squads, a wave of underclassmen is emerging — and they're already making their presence felt. Kinley has the leadership qualities coaches look for in a setter. She communicates constantly, controls tempo, and distributes the ball with precision. Her ability to speed up the offense when needed keeps defenses off balance, and she's comfortable taking aggressive second-ball swings when opportunities arise. Peterson is the kind of setter who makes everyone around her better. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Makayla is emerging as a strong option on the pin. She uses her length well at the net, hitting with a controlled but powerful swing. On defense, she's reliable in coverage and doesn't shy away from physical rallies. Watts has the tools to develop into a primary scorer, and her progress this year suggests she's trending toward that role. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Chelsie versatility is invaluable. She can play the role of a steady passer, dig up tough shots, and then turn around and swing with confidence from the front row. Her energy is contagious, and she thrives in high-tempo matches where she can influence the game in multiple phases. That balance makes her a stabilizer when the Trojans need control. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Jeh'Niyah is the enforcer of Thomasville's lineup. She's strong at the net, both as a blocker and an attacker, and she sets a tone with her physicality. Her ability to control the middle opens up the offense for the outsides, making her impact go beyond just stats. Wheeler plays with a toughness that opponents can feel across the net. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Emilie is a consistent scoring option who embraces big moments. She takes smart angles, using placement as much as power, and has developed into a reliable outlet for Lamar's setters. Beyond her attack, Wentz competes hard in serve receive and shows a steady, composed presence that raises the confidence of the entire lineup. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Olivia is a dynamic presence at the net. She combines quickness and strength to score in transition, and she's fearless when going up against larger blocks. Defensively, she adds a strong blocking presence, often forcing hitters into tough shots. Her motor and competitive fire give Thomasville a physical edge in every match. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast Lamar County's trio of sophomore hitters provides the foundation for long-term success, while Thomasville's juniors already look ready to lead a playoff push. Both teams are positioned to make noise in the postseason, with Lamar leaning on versatility and Thomasville leaning on athleticism.
