Who took home the 2025 IAAM C Conference championship?

Bob wrote a good summary of the IAAM championships earlier. Due to schedule conflicts, I missed the B Conference finals, which he covered in his post. I DID, however, also catch the C Conference title game between The Severn School and The Park School. I did NOT correctly predict this finals matchup earlier in the season, but I'm going to hide behind the fact that most of the schools didn't have rosters online so I was guessing.

In this matchup, The Park School started out of the gate in firm control, with a two-person attack. Setter Madeleine Merigeon looked sharp, excellent defense from the setter spot, accurate sets, good movement with the ball; she was a big difference for the team early. Outside Hitter, playing all around was McKayla Jie, who is very undersized compared to typical outsides, but with a great vertical, was getting up and getting hard, clean shots down all day.

McKayla is small for the OH position, but her vertical lets her get up and get good, clean shots down, especially on the cross. She showed good awareness and dropped some tips when the block doubled in front of her, and let loose and overpowered the solo block on a couple of occasions. She may look more like a DS at first glance, but that suited her well when playing back row; she was making great plays, both digging and serve receiving.

After Park took the first set in controlling fashion, Severn woke up and found their identity. Watching one game is a small sample size when watching two teams, but for today, Severn was led by Outside Naliya Hudson, who was a bit more of a power 3 OH, but was a force when she was in the front row, putting down balls that the other team really struggled with keeping up. Most of the offense was flowing through her for the day, and Park just didn't seem to have an answer for her at the net, which led to their next problem. Freshman Shae Donnelly took over as MB at some point, and with the lack of size at the net, Park just couldn't match up. After winning two tight sets to take a 2-1 lead, Severn put the game away in the 4th with a 16-point run, during which Donnelly had 8 Aces.

Shae uses good size and touch to her advantage at the net. Only a freshman, she's got plenty of potential and room to grow, as Middles are hard to come by in Volleyball these days. She's got good strength defensively, and good touch and awareness offensively, showing angled tips, power kills, and a nice serving touch. The base is there for her to be quite a player in her career.

Congrats to the Severn School winning their first-ever IAAM Championship, and moving up to the B bracket next year. Hopefully, some of these players show up at the Prep Dig Exposure Tour in Richmond, VA December 20th. I'd like to see them stacked against some of the other club players in the area and see where they match up.
