–

Coming for it all, Saturday marked the end of yet another incredible season in the MHSAA.

In Division 4, the stars finally aligned for a long awaited Fowler Eagles program that took home their first ever State Championship. They were pushed to the brink against an incredibly scrappy Crystal Falls Forest Park team who had been here in Kellogg a season ago. The five set match starting off the entire Finals weekend was perfectly indicative of what was to come.

From there, Fowler had shaken off the newness of the stage and drove it all the way home. Behind the community of Fowler coming out in droves and the MOP performance of [player_tooltip player_id='836790' first='Paige' last='Thelen'] on the outside, the Eagles downed the unanimous No. 1 team out in straight sets.

It was quite the run for all four of these teams and they were led by the standout play from these several stars in Division 4.

OH - [player_tooltip player_id='836790' first='Paige' last='Thelen']

The indisputable MOP of the Division 4 finals has to go to this arm on the outside pin. What [player_tooltip player_id='836790' first='Paige' last='Thelen'] was capable of doing within just three and a half rotations was spectacular. Against CFFP in the semifinals, it was Thelen that was able to drive her team past with 32 kills and 11 digs. Against Mendon, there was no need for warm up, no introduction. She downed 21 kills and 11 digs within the three set affair. She led all scorers in the division.

OH - Ava Fischer

Despite the earlier than expected bow out of the championship weekend, one star shined brighter than the rest from Crystal Falls Forest Park. That was Ava Fischer on the outside. This six rotation outside hitter did just about everything you needed from a player in her position. Fischer scored well, passed superbly and played great defense. In pushing the eventual champions, Fowler, to the brink of elimination, FIscher put up 28 kills in the match, hitting an electrifying .421 hit percentage.

MB - Brooke Badger

While Ubly's first appearance in Kellogg Arena was not the most ideal of first time meetings, there are a bright spots. It was an impressive outing from a prospect we don't hear too much from when it comes to the Bearcats. Brooke Badger is not at the top of the scouting report for Ubly. When you get on a big stage like this, it can be pretty intimidating. However, in the Bearcat's semifinal against Mendon, Badger showed no fear. In limited opportunity, Badger knocked down 7 kills in the match and had a pair of key blocks.

MB - Lashell Blair

While, not the ending Mendon was hoping for, there is quite the positive outlook when it comes to the future of this program. Lashell Blair in the middle can do some real damage when given the right opportunity. In Battle Creek, she was able to prove just that. On arguably the biggest stage of her career thus far and only a freshman, Blair showed out. Through six sets, Blair knocked in 16 kills and 6 blocks on the weekend.

S - Neelah O'Rourke

Fowler's true key to success runs through this player right here, Neelah O'Rourke. A name I wasn't too familiar with coming into the weekend, but O'Rourke left more than an impression. In her first ever appearance in Kellogg Arena, O'Rourke was poised and ran an incredible offense. Throughout all of the divisions, she was consistently amongst the leaders in assists. Through eight sets of play, O'Rourke had over 100 assists, 24 digs and 7 aces en route to the championship.

L - Rachel Wirth

We were really lucky to see some of the best defensive players in the division this weekend and they went head to head too. Rachel Wirth for Fowler creates a true trifecta that when acquired is hard to stop. With the ball starting through her, it was difficult for anyone to compete with Fowler. Wirth had 58 digs on the weekend, acting as one of the leaders in defense for any player in any division. Her reception was also rock solid, allowing the Eagles to be in constant rhythm.

L - [player_tooltip player_id='462081' first='Jadyn' last='Samson']

Now, we can't give love to Wirth without giving love to this one from Mendon. In Division 4, we truly had on display a pure masterclass in back court play between these two. [player_tooltip player_id='462081' first='Jadyn' last='Samson'] has long acted as the face of this Mendon program. Since her freshman year, she has held the reigns to the Hornet's defense. Thriving in the role, she is a critical reason Mendon has found the success that they have had these last four years. In her final weekend of play, Samson picked up 43 digs through six sets of play.
