New Dynamic Defenders Jumping on Our Radar at NorCal

Young liberos and defensive specialists are reaching incredible new levels of skill and confidence, setting the bar even higher for the position. The backrow talent we see today on the court is better than ever, with players developing skills and learning high level game concepts at a very early age. The following new, young defenders are ones that are doing just that…they learning the skills early, implementing them on the court, and elevating the play around them and all while making it look effortless. She anchored her defense with remarkable quickness, focus, and court awareness. She read the hitters early, moved swiftly, and consistently positioned herself exactly where she needs to be, making difficult plays appear effortless. What sets her apart even further was her control in out of system plays. She delivered clean sets with her hand that kept her offense producing. Victa is a smart and reliable player that will use that elaborate skill set to elevate every game around her.     Barajas is a defensive dynamo that brought quickness and efficiency to the court. She was consistent and deliberate in every movement she made. Her footwork was sharp and controlled (rarely a false step) which allowed her to cover a larger than normal portion of the court. Barajas was excellent with her passing as she did a solid job keeping her hips behind the ball, which allowed her to direct the ball right to target. Barajas was smart, controlled and fundamentally sound making her a up and coming libero to keep tabs on.     Clark is a defensive standout that did an exceptional job moving laterally with excellent hustle, tracking down balls from sideline to sideline. Her versatility and range gives her the ability to play any position in the back row. Her height, combined with her excellent reading skills, especially gave her an advantage on deeper balls, allowing her to get her hands on tough balls and keep the play going. Her ability to read, quickness, and versatility brings high level defense to the court that any coach would want.     Lubiano is a defensive player that is super quick, scrappy, and relentless in her pursuit of the ball. She is one of those defenders that will never give up on a play, whether it be tracking down balls in the deep corner to diving for a ball that bounces off a blocker out of bounds. She is highly effective because she stays low and has great reactions. Only a 2030, she already plays at a level beyond her age, making her a standout player on the rise.     Villarin is a young defender that showcased exceptional defensive skills at the Exposure Tour in NorCal. She was disciplined as she stayed low and ready which allowed her to make big plays throughout the day. She was also solid and reliable in free ball passing allowing her team to take advantage of opportunities. Villarin is going to be one to keep tabs on as she continues to grow and develop her game as well as fine tune those already strong fundamentals.
