The game is faster. The blocks are bigger. The expectations are higher. For outside hitters, that adjustment is even more demanding. They are asked to score, pass, defend, lead, and often carry the emotional weight of the match. Most players need time to grow into that responsibility.

The athletes featured here didn't wait.

In their first year of high school volleyball, these outside hitters showed they were prepared—not just to survive the moment, but to influence it. What stood out wasn't only their physical skill set, but the habits behind it. They showed up early. They stayed late. They accepted coaching. They competed through mistakes. And when the pace picked up, they didn't shy away from the work.

As scouts, we look closely at how young players respond to challenge. These outside hitters responded with growth. Their first year laid a strong foundation, and based on what we've already seen, their impact is only going to expand in the upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='922276' first='Bailey' last='Huber']

[player_tooltip player_id='922276' first='Bailey' last='Huber'] made her early impact by understanding how to be efficient from the pin. She doesn't rely on volume alone—she scores by making smart decisions. Bailey shows a natural feel for the block, recognizing when to attack seams, when to tool hands, and when to extend rallies rather than force points. Her approach mechanics are consistent, allowing her to stay balanced and controlled even when sets drift off the net.

What stands out most is her work ethic. Bailey is the type of outside hitter who wants reps—good or bad—and applies feedback quickly. She's coachable, competitive, and continues to refine the details of her game. That willingness to grind through development is what positions her for a bigger role next season. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='922285' first='Ella' last='Goodman']

[player_tooltip player_id='922285' first='Ella' last='Goodman'] impacted matches early with her ball control and reliability, two traits that earn trust fast at the high school level. As an outside hitter, she brings value beyond attacking, consistently delivering clean serve-receive passes that allow the offense to stay in system. Her platform control and composure under pressure set her apart from many first-year players.

Offensively, Ella continues to grow in confidence, showing a controlled swing and an understanding of shot placement. She plays with discipline, rarely forcing points, and embraces the full responsibility of the outside hitter role. Her consistency and willingness to do the less glamorous work make her a player coaches can lean on—and one whose role will continue to expand. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='922280' first='Breelynn' last='Vetter']

[player_tooltip player_id='922280' first='Breelynn' last='Vetter']'s early impact came through her physicality and competitive edge. She attacks with intent, bringing energy to the pin and staying aggressive in transition. Her arm speed and willingness to challenge blocks stood out, especially for a player in her first year at the high school level.

What makes Breelynn intriguing is her mindset. She doesn't back down after errors. She resets, asks for the ball again, and continues to compete. That mental toughness, paired with her physical tools, gives her a high ceiling. As her footwork and shot selection continue to refine, her offensive production is poised to take another step forward. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='785248' first='Haelynn' last='Hoffmann']

[player_tooltip player_id='785248' first='Haelynn' last='Hoffmann'] separated herself early through her court awareness and volleyball IQ. She reads plays well, anticipates defensive positioning, and understands how to adjust her attack based on the flow of the match. Her ability to stay composed in longer rallies and make smart decisions reflects a player who sees the game clearly.

Haelynn also brings a steady presence to the court. She communicates, competes, and stays locked in through every rotation. Her coachability stands out—she listens, applies instruction, and shows improvement over time. That maturity at a young age signals a player who is just beginning to tap into her potential. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='792456' first='Marcella' last='Heiser']

[player_tooltip player_id='792456' first='Marcella' last='Heiser'] made her mark with technical discipline and repeatability. Her approach mechanics are clean, and she consistently puts herself in a position to be an option in both system and out-of-system situations. Marcella understands spacing, stays available in transition, and brings a calm, controlled presence to the pin.

What stands out most is her consistency. She doesn't disappear during tough stretches and continues to play with confidence regardless of momentum. Her attention to detail and commitment to improvement make her a player who will continue to climb as the game speeds up and the expectations grow. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

[player_tooltip player_id='756806' first='Berginn' last='Yoder']

[player_tooltip player_id='756806' first='Berginn' last='Yoder'] impacted her first season through effort, range, and relentless competitiveness. She covers ground well, stays involved in all phases of the game, and brings high energy to every rally. From the pin, she stays aggressive while continuing to refine her shot selection.

Berginn's motor never stops. She embraces hard reps, plays with intensity, and consistently looks for ways to contribute—even when she's not the primary option. That mentality, paired with her developing skill set, positions her to take on a larger offensive role moving forward. Players who compete like this early tend to make big jumps. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

Thank you to all my readers for making this journey possible.
