Once again, our ranked list has doubled in size.

What began as an initial Top 25 became a Top 50. Now, we've expanded the list further after spending another high school season with the Class of 2028. Nebraska's sophomores gave us a lot to see last fall, yielding a new Top 100 for our rankings.

Such a big development is worthy of an introductory feature. Before we get into the finer details on can't-miss standouts, here's what's new and what's next for our 2028 hierarchy.

Next Up

We have a lot of players to welcome to the rankings.

Of course, many of our newly ranked 2028s were part of our most recent watch list. This class had already proven itself through last spring's club season, but the fall campaign offered another sample of Nebraska's best in this group. A larger sample size leads to larger rankings.

However, a select few players are brand new to our database but jumped right into the rankings instead of the watch list. We'll surely highlight these names throughout the week.

So, where are these new names coming from? The high school season is an invaluable check-in with the small-town scene, so many of our ranked entrants represent Nebraska's rural powerhouses. Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Mullen, Central Valley, Milford, Freeman, and Amherst are just a few of the championship contenders with freshly ranked athletes. Expect plenty of upcoming chatter on these schools, plus many more.

Still Splitting Hairs

We always have to reiterate how difficult it is to compile these rankings. Fine distinctions abound.

In many regards, you can view the ranked order as interchangeable and transitory. Nebraska's 2028s are still developing and improving, and our rankings will adapt accordingly.

It's best not to get caught up in the minutiae, or why one player is above another. Here's our perspective: being anywhere in these rankings is a reflection of exceptional play and extraordinary impact at prep volleyball's highest level. This is a way to celebrate Nebraska's future stars.

That celebration continues this week with our post-release coverage, but it certainly won't stop there.

Club Mix

We're inching closer to the start of the club season. Let's check in on which clubs are bringing the best of the 2028s.

In short, there are a lot of clubs to watch. We still have the juggernauts from [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'], Premier Nebraska, [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''], and Nebraska Elite producing the state's top-tier sophomores. That's no surprise. The Top 10 is loaded with stars from these groups, and that's just the beginning.

However, emerging clubs are gaining a larger footprint among Nebraska's 2028s. We shouldn't be surprised to see South Central NE near the top. Last year's 15 Black group stormed to the GJNC podium in Dallas, replicating their triumph from the Show Me Qualifier in Kansas City. Many of those 15 Black standouts showed out on the state tournament stage, too.

Nebraska Juniors and Club Legacy are getting in on the action, too. Both flexed their strength on the 15s scene last year, particularly with Club Legacy 15 Alpha's Show Me Qualifier championship. We can't wait to see more from these clubs at the 16s level.

Beyond the List

We're not just discussing the ranked list this week.

Along with expanding to a Top 100, we've also added dozens of new names to our watch list. These players can be considered the next in line to be ranked upon our next update. Some of these athletes will soar into the Top 100 following impactful club outings. It always happens.

Our spotlight will be on new additions this week, and we'll have commentary on who's on the cusp of a rankings breakthrough. Then, once we get into the midseason grind, we'll reassess the 2028 hierarchy.

The grind never stops.

Once again, our ranked list has doubled in size.
