Big South 14U Live: Middles Learning to Control the Net

At the Big South Qualifier, middle blockers in the 14U division are beginning to understand their role beyond just being tall at the net. This level is about learning timing, footwork, and how to read the game while staying active in both blocking and transition. The middles who stand out are the ones who stay engaged every play, move laterally, and work to close space. These athletes showed effort and growth in controlling the net throughout their matches.    Emily shows strong effort at the net and stays active throughout blocking sequences. She works to track the ball and get her hands up early, which is important at this stage. Her willingness to stay engaged helps her team defensively. She works laterally and continues to develop her timing on blocks. Her effort in transition helps her stay available offensively. She stays engaged and makes an effort to close space against hitters. Her consistency in effort stands out. She works to read the play and stays disciplined with her positioning. Her effort helps reinforce the front row defensively. She works to track the setter and close seams when possible. Her ability to stay active helps her team defensively. She works to position herself well and contributes to blocking structure. Her engagement in transition keeps her relevant offensively.
