PD SpikeFest: 14/15u Setters Raising the Bar

These young setters are setting the bar high with their speed, accuracy, communication, and overall skill. All of these setters run the court like a pro, and will only continue to get better.    Stotesbery has energy and skill that is hard not to notice. Her ball control defensively allows her libero to set up her hitters. When setting, she hustles to get under the ball early, giving her time to hear her hitters and read the defense. Stotesbery has a high IQ of the game and will use it to her advantage. Her sneaky dumps catch the opponents off guard, not allowing them to return the ball. She has strong court awareness and can successfully set up any hitter, no matter the location of the pass. Her communication can be heard across the gym, and her positive attitude makes her fun to watch.     Pieper is an offensive and defensive machine. Offensively, she can run multiple routes with her hitters effectively. She hustles to get the second ball quickly and squares her body to the net. Pieper has soft and quiet hands when setting any position. Defensively, she is always ready and takes her role seriously. By reading her opponents, she puts her body in a position to intercept the ball. Her fast feet and platform control help her run down shanked balls to put them back in play. Pieper does not shy away or give up, no matter the score, and keeps encouraging her teammates.     Thome has strong setting hands, keeping her in control of the play. Communicating routes with hitters, she constantly changes up her offense, keeping her opponents on their toes. She works with all hitters to help them be successful. She hustles during every play, both defensively and offensively. Thome gets to the ball early with time to get her tips squared and be in the right position to set her hitters. Her strong communication with teammates keeps the out-of-system plays going.     A freshman setter, Moerman, stands out with her fast feet and controlled jump sets. She pushes the pace of her offense, creating plays her opponents can not keep up with. Her court awareness allows her hitters to run multiple routes during rallies. Using her platform, Moerman controls balls that are in the net or out of system, keeping the play moving. Her communication helps her stand out and helps her team make strategic moves. Defensively, Moerman strongly reads her opponents and adjusts her defensive position depending on their play. She has strong platform control and, if taking the first ball, puts it in the right spot for her libero to set up the pins.     Rohman has quick feet and a high volleyball IQ. Reading her own passers, she gets herself in the position to set early with time to adjust to hitters and the opponent's defense. Being able to see her hitters, she sets time-accurate balls that they can attack aggressively. Running her hitters on multiple different routes demonstrates the variety of setts she can successfully place. Her communication is strong, creating no doubt that she will get the ball.
