Day 1 made one thing clear — the tempo was in good hands.   The setters who stood out weren't just collecting assists. They were controlling the offense. They delivered in-system balls with precision, adjusted seamlessly out of system, and made smart decisions under pressure. Whether it was running quick tempo, pushing the pin, or keeping blockers guessing with second-contact attacks, these floor generals dictated the pace of the match.   Here's a closer look at the setters who truly separated themselves on Day 1.    From my view on the sideline, [player_tooltip player_id='739818' first='Kallie' last='Nourse-Zinke'] commanded the tempo from the very first rotation. Her hands were quiet and controlled, and what impressed me most was how consistently she delivered a neutral release point — no telegraphing, no drift. She did an excellent job squaring to target even when the pass pulled her off the net, creating hittable balls in transition.   Kallie understands pace. She wasn't just tossing high outside — she mixed in quick tempo to the middles, stretched the pin when blockers committed early, and showed confidence pushing the ball to zone two in tight moments. Her decision-making late in sets stood out. When the block cheated middle, she exploited the seams. When defenses sagged, she wasn't afraid to dump and steal a point. Watching her live, you see a setter who trusts her hands and isn't afraid to challenge a defense. What separated Alexandra was her ability to run offense in system and out of system. On broken plays, she didn't panic. She adjusted her footwork, re-established her platform, and delivered high-percentage balls that kept rallies alive. She does a strong job disguising her intentions, holding her shoulders until the last second before releasing to the pin or quick option. Her tempo control kept blockers guessing all day. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas     Alyssa Northey was surgical in her distribution. From courtside, you could see how intentional every touch was. She consistently set the ball at peak jump height, allowing her hitters to swing in rhythm rather than adjust midair.   Her connection with the middles was noticeable. She ran tight tempo in front and showed confidence going behind on the slide, forcing opposing blockers to stay honest. In serve-receive, she pushed tempo to the outside to stretch the block wide and open seams. Alyssa's defensive effort also stood out — covering tips, digging second contact balls, and transitioning immediately into offensive control. She plays with composure and high volleyball IQ. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas     Audrianna Schraugnagel brings energy and competitiveness to the setter position. Watching her manage tight sets, you could see her confidence grow in pressure moments. She thrives in transition — chasing down errant passes, squaring up, and delivering controlled, hittable balls even when off balance.   What impressed me most was her willingness to vary tempo. She wasn't predictable. She sped up the middle when blockers were late and extended to the antenna when she saw mismatches. She also showed strong court awareness, recognizing when to attack second contact and when to distribute. Audrianna plays with urgency and emotion — and that energy fueled her offense throughout the day. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas     [player_tooltip player_id='835772' first='Amelia' last='Zoschke'] plays the position with polish. From the sideline, her mechanics stand out — clean hand contact, efficient footwork, and consistent release. She runs a balanced offense and understands how to move a block laterally by distributing pin to pin before bringing the middle back into play.   Amelia's out-of-system setting was impressive. When the pass drifted off the net, she delivered high, controlled balls that allowed hitters to reset and stay aggressive. She sees the floor well, identifying soft spots in coverage and feeding the hot hand when needed. There's a calm confidence in how she operates — no wasted motion, no rushed decisions.
