The 2026 club volleyball season is rolling along. The first weekend of the Iowa Regional Qualifier is behind us. Teams are competing hard for bids to the USAV and AAU national tournaments coming up this summer.

I've been able to watch a lot of good volleyball this campaign. The sport in this state has continued ascending.

I caught Johnstone in action during the 2026 Iowa Impact Invite. Platform Adidas finished fourth in the event, taking the eventual champion to three sets, and she played an important role in the team's successful weekend. Johnstone stands out for her versatility on the court. She's sound in the back row, utilizing lateral quickness and sharp reflexes to dig up balls and deliver usable passes. Johnstone keenly reads the attack and tracks balls well in serve-receive. She's also a dangerous performer at the net. Lacking the height of a prototypical pin, Johnstone makes up for it with an impressive vertical leap and an ability hang in the air. She brings a heavy swing to the outside, can effectively end points from the middle and convert from the 10-foot line. There are few things Johnstone can't accomplish in the game, making her an interesting prospect for the next level.

Ketner was taking care of business when I saw her competing at the 2026 Iowa Impact Invitational in Ankeny. The United Township junior was holding it down in the back row for a Platform Adidas outfit that went unbeaten in winning the 17/18 Division at the event. Ketner combines a good feel for the back row with being technically sound there. She picks up the attack well and moves into proper position to consistently deliver accurate passes. Ketner reacts well to pace and lateral quickness is present. She tracks the ball well in serve receive and covers a lot of the court. Ketner flashes a high volleyball IQ and strong leadership skills.

I've watched all of Conrad's matches this club season as a result of her being teammates with our daughter on Rockets 15R. She's adjusted nicely to operating out of a 6-2 this club campaign after running the show herself as a Burlington Notre Dame freshman in the fall, when she piled up 739 assists. In her first year working with this Rockets front row, Conrad has steadily learned where teammates like the ball and become more consistent at getting it there. She's a good athlete, which helps her get quickly to the spot of the pass and in defending against the opposing attack. That's also evidenced by her racking up the second most digs (333) for the Nikes this past season. A strong vertical leap aids her in throwing up an effective block. Conrad also is a consistently good server, brings positive energy to the court and is a good teammate.

I watched Meaney compete at the Rochester M1 Elite Scrimmages in early January and then again at the Iowa Impact Invitational in Ankeny at the beginning of this month. The powerful middle hitter displayed the talents that led to her posting 178 kills and 35.0 blocks as a sophomore starter on a Janesville squad that reached the Class 1A State Championship match in the fall. Meaney is a two-way presence in the middle of the net. She's strong on the attack with the versatility to end points in a traditional set via a big vertical leap and a heavy swing or in putting down quicks thanks to explosiveness and timing. The skills that aid her on offense also show up defensively, where long arms and good reads benefit the operation. Meany is steadily improving and on a trajectory to reach her promising potential.

There's not a more difficult varsity lineup to crack than the one at Waukee Northwest. Winners of two of the last three Class 5A State Titles, the Wolves are developing high-end talent on their freshman, sophomore and junior varsity teams. De Bruin spent this last season honing her skills on the JV during the varsity's championship run. From what she showed at the Iowa Impact Invitational earlier this month, the ability to contribute the top squad during the next few campaigns is present. De Bruin helped Impact reach the 16U Gold Bracket at the event. She's a long-limbed, athletic performer in the middle of the net. The block is probably ahead of the attack right now. Timing and leaping ability contribute to positive results in that aspect of the game. De Bruin can end points with a chance for more improvement in the area through reps.
