It requires discipline, timing, and the ability to make split second reads on every rally. Middles are asked to close blocks, run quick tempos, transition at full speed, and still be available as an offensive option even when the play is not perfect. There is little room for drifting focus. Every point begins with their eyes and ends with their hands.   From a recruiting lens, the middle position reveals habits quickly. Footwork shows up in transition. Communication shows up in block organization. Composure shows up when the play breaks down and they still find a way to be available.
