Big South 17s: Middles Controlling the Net and Dictating Tempo

At the Big South Qualifier, middle blockers in the 17s division play a critical role in both defensive structure and offensive tempo. At this level, middles are expected to move efficiently along the net, close seams, and be available in transition as quick scoring options. The athletes who stand out are the ones who combine discipline with activity — staying engaged every play while reading the game in real time. This group showed strong presence and developing control at the net.    Rumi shows strong awareness at the net and does a good job maintaining positioning through plays. She works to track the ball and contribute in both blocking and transition. Her consistency helps reinforce front-row stability. Rumi contributes to overall team structure. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Ryann brings strong effort and does a good job staying engaged throughout rallies. She works to move laterally and contribute to blocking coverage. Her willingness to stay active in transition helps maintain offensive flow. Ryann is developing consistency in her timing. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Nora brings a steady presence in the middle and does a good job maintaining positioning along the net. She works laterally with purpose and stays disciplined in closing seams. Her effort in transition helps her stay available offensively. Nora supports consistent front-row structure. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Janiria shows strong physical presence and does a good job establishing space at the net. She works to read the play and position herself effectively against opposing hitters. Her ability to stay active in blocking sequences stands out. Janiria contributes to defensive control in the middle. ~ Samantha Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Ela shows strong engagement at the net and does a good job staying active throughout blocking sequences. She tracks the setter well and works to establish early hand positioning. Her ability to stay involved in transition keeps her a viable offensive option. Their movement along the net and presence in transition helped shape both offensive and defensive flow for their teams.
