<p>Day 1 of Madness at Miltown was a huge success and an absolute blast. The gym was bursting with energy and competition. While some teams are coming off of recent qualifiers, others have their first tournaments since spring break. There is no doubt that passion and excitement was felt on every court today. Here are some teams who were dynamic and impressive throughout Day 1. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Milwaukee Junior's 18 Select</h2>

<p>This team was incredibly scrappy and well-rounded. They did a great job balancing keeping every ball alive and controlling what they could. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='792604' first='Brooke' last='Poser'] showed how dynamic she is as an athlete. Her out of system balls were high and playable, serve receive was consistent, defense aggressive, and coverage quick. Defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='547207' first='Petra' last='Bassel'] also brought a lot of consistency in the back row. She was relentless on defense, picking up some truly tough balls and acting as a key server as well. Setters Ella Welcenbach and Summer Miller both were consistent and made great choices. On offense, right side [player_tooltip player_id='815502' first='Kylie' last='Kruck'], middle Elsa Pedriana, and pin hitter [player_tooltip player_id='522315' first='Jocelyn' last='Konkol'] all were go-to hitters. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Madtown 172 Select</h2>

<p>This team came in ranked 14th and is going into day 2 undefeated. They showed immense grit and speed on the court. Setter Dakota Sztuczko improved every set and had clean hands. She spread her offense incredibly well. Fella setter [player_tooltip player_id='768029' first='Madilyn' last='Heacox'] was quick and a major player as a setter and on defense. Libero Yasmin Rosas played tough and showed great mental toughness as well. On offense, I was very impressed with middle [player_tooltip player_id='918587' first='Ella' last='Barber'], right side Kendal Johnson, and pins [player_tooltip player_id='961933' first='Melody' last='Green'] and Faith Watson. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chicago Elite 16 Air</h2>

<p>This team was absolutely relentless on defense. It was truly incredible to watch them play. Their match against SMV 15-1 was lights out and there was not a moment where they let up. Every athlete on the court had an impact for them. Middle Daisy Yohpe had great court awareness and some key blocks, including set point in the first set win against SMV. Pin hitter Alejandra Melendez got a touch on everything and was always hustling trying to make an impact. Libero Raniyah Ballard was absolutely fearless on defense, picking up key balls and putting in relentless effort. Setter Hannah Lee worked incredibly hard to better the ball for her team. There were so many contributing athletes for this Chicago Elite team and they were absolutely unstoppable on defense. </p>

<p>This SMV team has an incredible amount of potential. They played a clean and efficient game of volleyball. Middle blocker Quinnly Hanson was an impact athlete on offense and defense. Setters Brielle Slagter and Avery Weinberber ran balanced and seamless offenses in their own right. Anndi Frie was a powerhouse pin with a wide range of shots. She could took numerous jumps per point and still put a forceful ball down in smart spot late in a rally. Lefty right side Whitney Himli impressed me with her springy vertical and quick arm swing. This was a consistent team and one that will only continue to impress. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Up North Juniors 18 Select</h2>

<p>Up North Juniors looked seamless on the court. They seemed comfortable and confident in every play. Setter Raina Ledzian ran the show and had a quick clean contact on the ball. Middle Zahra Wicks helped elevate their game on both offense and defense. Lily Curnow put up some great defense and pin hitter Jada Johnson was a powerhouse pin with a great platform as well. Another impactful offensive weapon for this team was Erika Peterson. Libero Onika Smeester was relentless on defense and in coverage. </p>
