Prep Dig continued its partnership with USA Volleyball at the Salt Lake City National Qualifier Showcase, held at the Salt Palace Convention Center on April 24th. The event brought together athletes from across the nation looking to compete in front of college coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at three players who earned Top Performer honors based on what they showed on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='961977' first='Danica' last='Gonzalez'] plays at Pioneer High School in Edinburg and McAllen Fierce Volleyball Club. The class of 2027 libero and outside hitter is the kind of player who makes opposing coaches uncomfortable from the first rally because they genuinely do not know where the threat is coming from next. Miss Gonzalez brings an elite physical profile to both positions she plays, combining the ball control and reading ability of a starting libero with a front row attacking game that features genuine power and a creative shot selection that keeps defenses off balance and guessing. She is not afraid to take big swings from the back row or the front row and she executes them with a confidence and physicality that most players her size do not carry at this stage of development. What makes her particularly dangerous is the combination of her ball control foundation and her attacking aggression, because she does not become a one-dimensional hitter when she moves to the front row and she does not lose her defensive edge when she moves back. She is one of the more uniquely complete players on the Texas Watch List and the college programs that recognize what a matchup problem she creates at multiple positions will be the ones that benefit most from making that call early. Danica is simply a player who can do it all and the film proves it. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.

[player_tooltip player_id='963608' first='Kristin' last='Nichols'], a Class of 2028 libero and setter from Waller High School and [program_tooltip program_id='798844' first='New' last='Age Volleyball Club'], is a dual-position athlete whose versatility immediately sets her apart from the majority of back row prospects in her class. The ability to function as both the primary defensive anchor and step in and run the offense when needed tells you there is a volleyball IQ and a level of skill development present that goes well beyond what most players her age have built at this point. Kristin has the physical tools that liberos need at the next level and she pairs them with the hand-setting ability and court feel that setters require, which is a combination you simply do not find very often in one player. Her passing is disciplined and precise, which is the quality that bridges both roles, because a player who can pass at an elite level and then set the ball when the team needs it is genuinely priceless to any system. Any school looking for a smart, multi-functional back row piece who can solve lineup problems before they start should be giving Miss Nichols a look now. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.

Sydney Cotman, a Class of 2028 outside hitter from Atholton High School in Columbia and Maryland Juniors Volleyball Club, is a player whose emergence from the Mid-Atlantic region should have college coaches from outside that market paying close attention. At 5'8" she attacks with a physicality and intent that stands out on the left pin and she plays with the kind of competitive mentality that shows up every single point rather than disappearing when the game gets hard. Her footwork and approach mechanics are developing in a positive direction and she arrives at the ball in a strong hitting position consistently, which tells you the technical foundation is being built the right way rather than patched together. She stays engaged on the defensive end and contributes across all six rotations rather than functioning only as a front row piece, and that full-game involvement is the sign of a player who understands what being an outside hitter actually means at the next level. She is a 2028 outside hitter worth a serious look. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.
