One club team that can't be overlooked in the state of Michigan is High Performance Volleyball.

A newer club in the state, it still compiles a group of talented players from around the state, and the results have been speaking for themselves in 2026 for HP 17-1.

Coached by Tony Scavarda, here's a look at the 17-1 squad and how they've fared this club season.

Elite Hitters

One thing High Performance 17-1 isn't short on is some elite hitting. [player_tooltip player_id='470031' first='Avery' last='Kapeller'] (Georgetown) has proven to be one of the best all-around hitters in the Class of 2027 and she keeps finding new ways to finish points. She's got great help at the net as well in outsides [player_tooltip player_id='456516' first='Kennedy' last='Duncan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='513767' first='Rachel' last='Johnston']. Duncan has really emerged as one of the breakout talents in this class over the years for being able to make plays in all phases of the game, while Johnston is a powerful and long right side that attacks with impressive trajectory.

In the middle, High Performance has had a nice roster of arms to work with in [player_tooltip player_id='514753' first='Kyleigh' last='Peacock'], [player_tooltip player_id='586776' first='Lyla' last='Gorny'], and Sienna Austin. Gorny has a lot of explosiveness with her attacks, and times them up well with her setter to hit some unstoppable stretches. Peacock has a lot of versatility along the net and can also switch to the right side and be effective. Austin has stepped in for the team at times and provided good depth in the middle.

Setting Options

HP 17-1 has a pair of setters that have primarily handled the load in [player_tooltip player_id='460587' first='Bridget' last='Boughton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='747660' first='Mari' last='Hardin']. Boughton is a setter/hitter combo that shows a lot of promise. She can make a lot of high-IQ plays and also has the athleticism to turn a bad pass into a good one. Hardin is a polished setting option that has been able to raise her pace of play in the last year and find a new level for her abilities. Jessa Romine has also filled in for the team during the season and provided some key setting and defensive help.

Reliable Defenders

High Performance has two of the best defenders in Oakland County working for them in [player_tooltip player_id='809036' first='Maya' last='Kuebler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='470701' first='Zoey' last='Kapeller']. Kuebler is an outside hitter during the prep season because she's got the athleticism to be a standout attacker as well, but her defensive instincts are among the best in the Class. Kapeller is a seasoned defender as well that is long and can cover a lot of space, but still get low to the ground to make a tough digs under pressure.

Season Highlights

This team has been holding its own against the best around the country. While taking some lumps in in some of the high-profile events in the nation, High Performance has also put together a win in The Nike Gauntlet, while finishing third in the Presidents' Day Challenge and Can Am Classic. Scores show HP 17-1 isn't far behind the very best in the state, coming up just a few points short. But, this team has great talent around the court. You will never be able to count them out.
