Junior Nationals Prep: Tips for Players and Parents

As the summer club season reaches its peak, teams across the country are locking in their final preparations for the Girls Junior National Championships. This is the moment many athletes and families have been building toward all year. With competition just around the corner, preparation becomes just as important as performance.

The 14–15 age divisions will take the court June 25–28, followed closely by the 16–17 divisions from June 30–July 3. While the gap between events is short, the intensity stays high. Because of that, both players and parents need to be intentional in how they prepare—physically, mentally, and logistically.

Lock In What You Do Best

For players, the biggest focus should be consistency. At this point in the season, it's not about adding new skills—it's about sharpening what you already do well. Prioritize quality reps in practice, stay aggressive in your role, and focus on controlling the first contact. In addition, trust your training. The work has already been put in—now it's about executing under pressure.

Take Care of Your Body

Recovery matters more than ever heading into a multi-day tournament. Hydration, sleep, and proper nutrition will directly impact performance. Players should build routines now, not the night before competition. Small habits—like stretching, fueling properly, and staying hydrated—can make a big difference over several long days.

Stay Mentally Steady

Nationals can bring momentum swings and high-pressure moments. Because of that, mental consistency is key. Players who maintain strong body language, communicate clearly, and stay composed between points often give their teams an edge. Reset quickly, focus on the next ball, and avoid getting stuck on mistakes.

Parents: Control the Environment

Parents play a key role in keeping things steady. Travel can feel hectic, so planning ahead helps reduce stress. Organize schedules, transportation, and meals early so athletes can stay focused on competing. During the tournament, keep conversations positive and simple. Confidence grows when players feel supported, not overwhelmed.

Embrace the Experience

Finally, both players and parents should take in the moment. The Girls Junior National Championships bring together some of the best talent in the country. While the goal is to compete and win, there is just as much value in learning from each match. Stay present, compete freely, and enjoy the opportunity.

As nationals approach, preparation will make the difference. Teams that stay disciplined, take care of their bodies, and manage the moment will put themselves in the best position to succeed.

Good luck to all teams!:)

As the summer club season reaches its peak, teams across the country are locking in their final preparations for the Girls Junior National Championships. This is the moment many athletes and families have been building toward all year. With competition just around the corner, preparation becomes just as important as performance.
