This is a team I've kept coming back to this season.

Every time I see 1st Alliance 15 Gold, something looks a little tighter. The ball is cleaner. The decisions are quicker. The game just looks more under control.

They've already earned their bid to USAV Nationals in the Open division, so this isn't about chasing anything. It's about how sharp they can get before stepping into that environment. And right now, they look like a team that understands exactly what that takes.

You can see it after a few rotations.

When the pass is on, they don't waste it. The setter is square, the tempo is there, and now they're making teams defend the full court. It's not rushed, and it's not forced. It just works.

[player_tooltip player_id='529086' first='Evelyn' last='Shirk'] | Setter
[player_tooltip player_id='529086' first='Evelyn' last='Shirk'] is the one everything runs through. You can feel it right away. She controls tempo, keeps hitters in rhythm, and doesn't get sped up when things break down. Being the top-ranked player in Indiana, a UA Next Invite selection, and part of the NTDP for four straight years, she plays like someone who's been in these moments. What stands out most is how she handles the imperfect plays. The pass can drift, and she still delivers a ball that gives her hitters a chance. That's not easy to do consistently, and she does it.

Claire Rooney | Setter
Claire Rooney gives them a different look as a lefty, and that changes things. The angles are different, the timing feels a little off for blockers, and she's gotten more consistent with her release as the season has gone on. When she's in system, she moves the ball well and keeps the offense from getting predictable.

Chyla Jukes | Middle
Chyla Jukes is one you notice without trying. She's active all the time. Not just on the first ball, but in transition, closing, moving, staying involved. She doesn't wait for the play to come to her. She stays in it. And when the ball isn't perfect, she still finds ways to create pressure. You can't fake that kind of motor.

Ella Bochenek | Middle
Ella Bochenek has really started to show more at the net. Her timing is getting better, and you can see her taking away more space instead of reacting late. It's not always a stuff block, but it's changing the swing on the other side, and that matters.

[player_tooltip player_id='774359' first='Lauren' last='Kirk'] | Middle
[player_tooltip player_id='774359' first='Lauren' last='Kirk'] adds another piece to that middle group. She moves well laterally and does a good job closing when the ball gets pushed outside. She stays connected to the play, and that keeps the block from breaking down.

Victoria Reed | Outside
Victoria Reed brings pace, and when she's in rhythm, she lets it go. She's not backing off swings, especially in transition. When the play gets a little off, she's still aggressive, and that keeps pressure on the defense.

Linden Stritch | Outside
Linden Stritch has continued to get more consistent, especially when the play isn't perfect. Her approach stays clean, and she adjusts mid-rally instead of forcing something that's not there. That's a big piece as matches get tighter.

Olivia Pora | Right Side
Olivia Pora gives them a right-side option that holds up when things break down. She stays available, keeps it simple, and gives the setters somewhere to go when they need it. Those swings matter more than people think.

Clare Kyle | Defense
Clare Kyle has been steady all season. She gets to her spot, keeps her platform clean, and delivers passes that allow everything else to run. Nothing extra, just controlled first contact.

Gabriella Munoz | Defense
Gabriella Munoz covers ground and reads the game well. She's not chasing plays, she's getting there early. That allows her to stay balanced and extend rallies, and that's where points start to build.

That's really where this team has changed the most.

They're staying in rallies longer.

Early in the season, some of those points might've ended quicker. Now, they're digging, resetting, and going again. You see it when matches tighten. They don't rush. They just keep playing.

One good pass turns into a swing. A block slows the next ball down. They reset and run it again. Then another swing. It starts to stack.

That's the difference.

Heading into The Gauntlet, this is what I'm watching.

How do they handle teams that serve tougher and push them off the net more often? How do they respond when the block closes faster and takes away space?

Because that's what Nationals looks like.

They've got the pieces. You can see that.

Now it's about doing it when the margin gets smaller and the game speeds up.

For college coaches, this is a team you don't just watch for a few points.

Stay on the court.

Watch [player_tooltip player_id='529086' first='Evelyn' last='Shirk'] manage the match when things aren't perfect. Watch Chyla Jukes stay active every rally. Watch the pins adjust when the ball is off. Watch how the back row keeps them in system.

But more than anything, watch how they've grown.

This isn't just a talented group.

This is a team that's figured out how to play together—and that shows up when it matters.~Theresa@prepdigdakotas
