If you've followed my writing over the years, you know one thing about me: I love great back-row defense. Recently, I was introduced to a new defender who will be on my radar for years to come in [program_tooltip program_id='428799' first='Rockwood' last='Thunder']'s [player_tooltip player_id='956040' first='Hannah' last='Scerba'].

Competing for the Thunder 15 Elite squad, Scerba is exactly that: elite. The first clips I watched immediately showcased her balance, court awareness, and ability to keep balls alive that most would assume were destined for the floor. Her instincts and quickness allow her to make plays on balls that often get past other defenders. I also appreciate defenders who aren't afraid to stand in front of some serious heat, and Scerba does exactly that when defending attacks from the opposite side while positioned near the ten-foot line in left back.

One area of her game that consistently stands out is her ability to handle the second contact. She does so with poise, delivering clean hand sets and showing touch when operating near the ten-foot line. Another underrated aspect of her game is her commitment to hitter coverage. Scerba routinely puts herself in a position to extend rallies, staying low and getting underneath hard-driven balls to give her offense another opportunity to score.

Beyond her defensive prowess, she is a highly reliable passer in serve-receive. While highlight reels naturally showcase a player's best moments, Scerba's technique reveals a level of consistency that suggests she can control a significant portion of the backcourt. She is the type of libero who will undoubtedly attract the attention of college programs in the years ahead.

The Lafayette rising sophomore is equally impressive in the classroom, carrying a weighted 4.29 GPA. Her academic accomplishments include membership in Honor Society and earning the Renaissance Honor Gold recognition. She is also active in several service-oriented organizations, including Best Buddies and Key Club.

An A+ student, an A+ athlete, and an A+ person; that's the complete package [player_tooltip player_id='956040' first='Hannah' last='Scerba'] brings as she continues to make her mark on volleyball in Eastern Missouri.
