The USAV All-Star Championships is a yearly event where both all-star delegations from all 40 USAV Regions, as well as International Teams from FIVB, come to compete in four age divisions: U13, U15, U17, and U19. This year, the Oklahoma Region will be sending 5 teams to compete in Columbus, Ohio: two U15 Girls teams, U17 Girls, U15 Boys, and U17 Boys. The players are hand selected by the Oklahoma Region's All-Star coaches and delegation at a tryout the night before regionals- with talented players from various clubs throughout the state competing for spots. The competition begins on July 23rd, and all 5 teams are participating camps July 10-12 and July 17-19 to prepare. Let's take an in depth look at the 10 members of the OKRVA Region Girls 15-2 Team…

[player_tooltip player_id='995138' first='Nora' last='Montgomery'] – OH/OPP, Oklahoma Peak

Nora has stood out instantly with her size, blocking ability and aggressive hitting- on both the right side and outside. In scrimmaging against the U17 team during week 1 camp, she really made a big impact slowing down outside hitters with her block in the 3 rotations she's on the court. She was able to match their height and athleticism at the net, despite the age difference. Nora also emerged as a go to hitter- especially when the team found themselves in a tough spot. She has a high contact point and a strong snap, combined with an ability to swing both angle and line consistently. The team will need her to continue to come up big at the tournament.

Megan Moschak – MB, Oklahoma Charge (Central)

Megan was an easy choice for the selection committee, showing her athleticism and flexibility in the tryout. She is able to score on a variety of different sets and tempos from the middle position, as well as from the outside and right side. She's aggressive and always looking to score- which this team will need from her as they battle some of the best players in the country. Megan also shows some solid back row play- both defensively and as a hitter out of the back row- which is essential as both middles must serve (the Championships utilize the FIVB rulebook- which does not permit liberos to serve).

Sarah Shade – DS/L, Club Ace

Sarah is a player you'll want to track as she progresses through her career. She has really been diligent to soak in all the information being thrown at her in the first 3 days of camp. She's also quickly emerged as a leader on the team. She brings a ton of energy and communication, as well as coachability. She relentlessly pursues the ball in defense, and is not afraid to hit the floor. As she continues to learn the serve receive system, as well as more big game experience playing against the U17 and U15-1 teams, we anticipate her game taking another leap during the 2nd week of camp. You can tell she's a competitor, and will be fighting hard for that libero spot.

[player_tooltip player_id='943807' first='Alexis' last='August'] – S/OPP, Oklahoma Charge (Tulsa)

Lexi played up a year this past club season, and playing against older competition should help prepare her for the Championships. Primarily a setter, she's shown herself to be capable in serve receive and as a hitter- opening up some opportunities to hit on the right side as well. Lexie has a good feel for where to go with the ball offensively, based on which hitters are hot, as well as what the defense is giving up. She's also picking up the setter attack (dump) really well- giving her team another offensive weapon to employ.

Hannah Brem – OH, Virago

Unfortunately, Hannah sustained an injury at Nationals last month and will not be able to travel with the team to Columbus- but was still one of the original 10 selected for the team. The team will miss her versatility more than anything. As a well-rounded pin hitter, Hannah can contribute as a lead attacker on the outside, a solid blocker on the right side, and also playing defense and serve receiving out of the DS position. The depth and additional line-up combinations she provided the team will be missed.
