USAV GJNC Showcase: Their Message to College Coaches

Coaches are searching for athletes who compete with confidence, respond to coaching, communicate with teammates, and bring qualities that extend beyond the stat sheet. Those characteristics often become just as important as a player's vertical jump, arm swing, or defensive range.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Along with my observations from the USAV GJNC Showcase, I asked each featured athlete one simple question:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>What would you like college coaches to know about you?</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Their responses are shared in their own words, offering coaches a chance to hear directly from the athletes themselves. My evaluation provides insight into what stood out on the court, while each player's message reveals the mindset, work ethic, and personality behind the performance. She moved well to tight passes and relied on quick upper-body mechanics to produce quality sets, giving her hitters opportunities to stay in rhythm even when the first contact wasn't perfect.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:quote --> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"><!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One thing I want college coaches to know about me is my work ethic. I'm willing to work super hard and put my full effort in order to become the best player I can be and help my team in any way I can. Her fast footwork and efficient transitions consistently put her in position to run the offense, while her smooth hands produced clean, hittable sets. She worked quickly to get into position, allowing her to maximize control on every contact. Her back sets were smooth, and she consistently worked to deliver clean, hittable balls that gave her hitters opportunities to stay aggressive.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:quote --> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"><!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I would like college coaches to know about me is that I have a very steady personality on the court and I'd describe myself as a cool cucumber under pressure. I don't easily get frazzled when things get frantic on the court. I also always strive to set up my hitters for success and give them the best possible chance of scoring. As a setter, she also did an excellent job directing the court, communicating with her hitters, and taking command of the offense with confidence.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:quote --> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote"><!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'm a driven class of 2028 outside hitter who loves competing and is always looking to improve. Outside of practices I love to dedicate time into plyometric training to increase my vertical and explosiveness, along with regularly taking private lessons to help advance my skills so I can contribute to my team's success.
