Sorting out all the standouts and storylines from a two-hour flurry of activity is never an easy task. She made a big entrance with Banzai VBC's top 18s crew this spring, lifting the team to impressive results beyond the regional stage. Past club seasons have revealed Fogelstrom's wicked power as an outside hitter, but the Bennington senior has also flourished in backcourt roles lately. We enjoyed watching this Conestoga standout patrol the right side of Banzai VBC 16 Select at the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. That outing offered a new perspective on Murdoch's game after she had excelled in the middle during past prep seasons. Her opposite prowess took precedence at our showcase, but Murdoch was more than willing to tee off on the left side, too. This Battle Creek sophomore was particularly eager to wield her flexibility on either side of the setter, leading to several noteworthy swings at the Stock Up Showcase. It's exactly what we'd expect after Cook logged some quality first-year reps with Battle Creek last fall. During our spring run-ins with Premier Nebraska 15 Red, Erwin primarily did her damage in the middle. She was especially lethal as a gap hitter who could snap on slower tempos away from the setter. Perhaps that work toward the antenna has primed Erwin for escalating reps on the outside. She lit up the pin positions during positional drills and slugged the ball with unmatched heat. Erwin can make the most of any ball in her hitting window, which becomes a valuable asset as setters rotate in and out of the showcase lineup. Like Erwin, Martinez has been especially lethal while spanning the entire net as a middle. Premier Nebraska 15 Red even used crossing patterns to harness Martinez's aptitude on the slide in three-hitter rotations. However, we were dazzled by the two-footed takeoffs that prove Martinez's worth as a pin hitter. She fits a very familiar Premier Nebraska mold as a long, fluid athlete who can play around the dial as a setter-hitter. Having Freeland in the gym helped the entire operation of six-on-six drills at the Stock Up Showcase. She could run a smooth offense before immediately pivoting to provide firepower as a right-side attacker.
