Run It Back: Six Players Who Could Swing Hebron-Lovett

Game Day: Monday, August 24 | 6:00 p.m. | Lovett School, Atlanta   There is history waiting on the other side of the net Monday night.   Hebron Christian travels to Lovett for a rematch of the 2025 GHSA Private state championship, a five-set match Lovett ultimately claimed. This time, Hebron arrives as the No. 2 team in Georgia in MaxPreps' August 20 rankings, while Lovett returns home after opening against a demanding group of out-of-state opponents.   That makes this much more interesting than an ordinary August non-region match.   Hebron has experienced seniors who understand exactly what happened the last time these programs shared the court. Lovett has one of the country's most recognizable young attackers and several returning players who already know what championship pressure feels like.   The match should give us a look at far more than who can terminate the most balls. Serve receive, blocking discipline, transition and the ability to stay composed when runs begin changing direction could decide this one.   Here are six players I will be watching closely.    Ashley has grown into the type of outside hitter who does not need overwhelming size to control a match. At 5-foot-7, her game has been built around timing, efficiency and understanding how to create a quality contact. She is a four-year varsity player and currently leads Hebron's offense in kills per set, continuing a role she handled throughout last season.   The skill to watch Monday is her ability to solve the block. Against a physical Lovett front row, simply swinging harder will not be enough. Ashley's value comes from being able to see space, use hands and stay available after passing or defending. The intangible piece is experience. She has already competed in this matchup with a championship attached to it, and senior outsides who can reset quickly after an error often become the players teams trust when a set reaches 20-all. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Jade can change the match before she ever receives a set.   At 6-foot-1, she gives Hebron a middle capable of closing attacking windows and forcing opposing pins to rethink where they want to swing. She currently leads the Lions in both hitting efficiency and total blocks, after also leading the team in those areas last season.   What makes Jade especially interesting against Lovett is the read-before-react battle. [player_tooltip player_id='745327' first='Kari' last='Knotts'] and Lovett's pins can attack from high contact points, so Jade's first move, eye sequence and ability to close without drifting will matter. Offensively, she can create just as much pressure by transitioning quickly enough to remain believable. A middle does not have to receive every ball to influence the block. If Jade keeps Lovett's middle occupied, Hebron's pins immediately gain more room to work. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     The loudest moments Monday may happen above the net, but [player_tooltip player_id='882984' first='Kaitlyn' last='Prentice'] could quietly determine how often Hebron gets to use all of its weapons.   She has developed into Hebron's primary backcourt stabilizer and currently leads the team in digs per set after pacing the Lions with 288 digs last season.   Her challenge will begin before Lovett attacks. First contact has to remain calm. If Lovett can push Hebron away from the net with serving pressure, Jade becomes harder to involve and the offense becomes considerably easier to predict. Kaitlyn's platform control, seam communication and ability to make difficult balls look routine could therefore influence the entire tactical shape of the match. The best liberos create confidence around them. Teammates begin playing more aggressively because they trust what is happening behind them. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     There may not be another sophomore in Georgia entering a gym with more attention already attached to her name.   The 6-foot-3 pin was MaxPreps' National Freshman Player of the Year after helping Lovett win last season's state title, finishing her freshman year with 631 kills while hitting .501. She also enters 2026 as a Preseason MaxPreps All-American.   But Monday is interesting precisely because we already know Kari can score.   The next question is how complete she can make the pressure. Can she remain stable when Hebron serves directly at her? Can she transition from first contact into a high-quality approach? Can she continue finding solutions after Jade and Hebron's block begin changing what she sees?   There is also an intangible challenge that comes with being the player everyone knows. Every opponent circles your name. Every big swing becomes expected. Learning to compete freely despite that attention is part of the progression from elite young talent to complete high-level player. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     With so much attention naturally moving toward Lovett's attacking talent, Margaux's role becomes even more important.   The 5-foot-4 libero enters her senior year after three varsity seasons in Lovett's backcourt, including last year's championship run.   Her biggest value Monday may be organization. Hebron can create pressure from several locations, and defenders cannot afford uncertainty over seams or tip responsibility. An experienced libero recognizes patterns, communicates them early and helps make the players beside her more comfortable. Margaux does not need every defensive play to become spectacular. If she can consistently turn Hebron's attacks into controllable transition balls, Lovett gets another opportunity to put Kari and its other pins back into offense.   That steadying presence is especially valuable in emotional matches. When momentum starts moving quickly, experienced backcourt leadership can slow everything down. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga     Zuri gives Lovett another young pin with room to expand her impact.   At 5-foot-9, she played meaningful varsity sets as a freshman during last season's championship run, contributing from both the right side and outside while also showing value as a blocker.   What makes her worth watching Monday is adaptability. Young pins who can work from both antennas begin understanding the game from several perspectives. The right side demands disciplined blocking against an opponent's primary outside, while the left side adds more first-contact and transition responsibility. Zuri does not need to dominate this match to influence it. If she can provide reliable swings, close blocks and remain composed when matchups change, she gives Lovett another option Hebron has to account for. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga    Hebron-Lovett could produce plenty of highlight swings, but I am more interested in what happens immediately before them.   Can Kk Prentice and [player_tooltip player_id='754856' first='Margaux' last='Godfrey'] keep their teams in system?   Can [player_tooltip player_id='573519' first='Jade' last='Howard'] alter [player_tooltip player_id='745327' first='Kari' last='Knotts']' preferred attacking windows?   Can [player_tooltip player_id='845176' first='Ashley' last='Troxell'] find offense after Lovett organizes around her?   And which young Lovett pin can provide another answer when Hebron commits extra attention toward Kari?   Monday night has history.   The skill battles will determine whether it creates another chapter worth remembering.
