Top Setters at the Michigan Freshman Showcase

Getting all of the next generation of student athletes in one gym, balling out next to one another is quite the feat. This year at the Michigan Freshman Showcase was no different. If anything, this may have been the best one yet.</p>   <p>From national champions, to emerging talents, and to the names we need to keep an eye on for in a few years. This class is another uber talented one out of the Mitten state. </p>   <p>First up, we have to chat setters. They're arguably the most vital position on the court and these frosh setters are going to make HUGE waves at their respective programs and club teams this year. Let's take a look at the top play makers in the 2030 class from Michigan!</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='922119' first='Reese' last='Berryman'] - Marian/Michigan Elite</h2>   <p>This is a setter that plays with a lot of energy. [player_tooltip player_id='922119' first='Reese' last='Berryman'] is a loud presence on the court that has the no problem leading the court. She is coming off of a 14 Open season that saw herself emerge as a top prospect. Berryman has length, IQ and a grit to her that can really develop into an elite level setting prospect in this class.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='965813' first='Addison' last='Hills'] - Midland Dow/Michigan Elite</h2>   <p>The Midland area seems to be an emerging hotbed of volleyball in the state of Michigan. [player_tooltip player_id='965813' first='Addison' last='Hills'] is one of many that are coming out of the Midland area that will be a game changing presence for years to come. At the setting position, Hills brings solid size and overall court awareness to challenge for a varsity slot. Hills also has the secret sauce of being a left handed player which can translate into a lot of offense on two if trained properly.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='995250' first='Reagan' last='Darga'] - Hartland/Legacy</h2>   <p>Hartland is going to really enjoy having this kind of athlete in this position for the next few years. [player_tooltip player_id='995250' first='Reagan' last='Darga'] may only be an incoming freshman, but she is looking incredibly strong and ready to take on the high school game with ease. Hartland is a program that is always good for really solid athletes throughout the years, particularly, attackers. Having Darga potentially be at the heart of the offense should be an alarming thing for opponents. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1007121' first='Brielle' last='Eveland'] - Lowell/FaR Out</h2>   <p>While a bit undersized, [player_tooltip player_id='1007121' first='Brielle' last='Eveland'] really knows how to ball out on the court. Whether she is slinging the set from pin to pin or hunkering down the line on the dig, Eveland is a part of a huge class for not only FaR Out but Lowell this fall. I got to get a taste of what Eveland was cooking up in the spring with her time at FaR Out and the sky is the limit. She has the ability to interweave positions and push her side of the net past their opponents.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1007547' first='Amelia' last='Kurtz'] - Milford/Legacy</h2>   <p>This is another left handed setter that is only going to be a nightmare for opponents throughout her prep career. [player_tooltip player_id='1007547' first='Amelia' last='Kurtz'] is the one-two punch at the setter position from that National Championship winning Legacy squad. Kurtz moves incredibly well around the court and delivers a consistent ball to her attackers. Despite being a tad undersized, being a lefty gives Kurtz a nice leg up on her counterparts.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='958515' first='Molly' last='Hickey'] - Marian/Legacy</h2>   <p>This prospect hasn't even stepped foot into a varsity match yet, and already, [player_tooltip player_id='958515' first='Molly' last='Hickey'] is showing just why she is the top setter in the class. In her position, Hickey is consistent, precise and can run an effective offense from any where on the court. Aside from her sheer skill, Molly is direct, fiery and a whole lot of fun to watch on the court. Hickey, alongside Kurtz, is coming off of a club season that saw her win not one, but TWO national championships in 14 Open, AAU and USAV. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='1011275' first='Hadley' last='Bogden'] - Ida/Michigan Elite</h2>   <p>Not only can this player set alongside some of the best, but [player_tooltip player_id='1011275' first='Hadley' last='Bogden'] can double down as an alarming attacker as well. She is projected to do a little bit of both throughout her career, Bogden is a prospect that hasn't seen to much attention recently, but I am sure to see that change in the coming months. At 6'0, Bogden brings great size to the net and can run a very fast offense when in the groove. This is going to be a player to keep an eye on as she develops throughout her prep career.</p>
