Week 1 Top Performers

First week is in the books and we saw some exciting 5 setters, some top 10 match ups, and some high level play from multiple girls. Today we will be looking into these top performers from week 1 and who stood out with their game play. As always tag us in your clips, and be on the lookout for us at some games in the coming weeks!!   Week 1 Top Performers:    Sahmone had a great 1st game and average 6.0 kills per set last week while hitting .536 as a outside hitter. She was the standout from her match against Mountain Ridge and also chipped in with 12 digs to get a double double on the day. With no Tessa for the time being, expect more days like this from Sahmone as she helps carry the load for the time being.     Sarah did it all last week, she played defense, scored points, and ran a very high level offense. Through 2 games last week she average 3.2 kills a set, 2.3 digs per set, and 5.3 assists per set. She contributed in a lot of high level ways and offensively did so at a very high clip as well by killing the ball at almost 50%. Chaparral also went 2-0 during the week and Sarah was a big part of that.     Had a great game against rivals Canyon View in her opening match. Katelyn is someone who is now on our radar after leading Millennium to their victory. She hit .324 and average over 5.3 kills a set to set the bar on offense for the Tigers. She also finished with 14 digs to get herself a double double with her offense and defense. She was also a great passer in the match continually getting served at but passing at a good rate. Great week 1 showcase by Katelyn.     Cactus had a great week going 2-0 and one of their standouts was Laila who had a great 2 games for the Cobras. Through both matches she average 4.3 kills per set, hit over .400, and had a kill percentage of 59%. She was an offensive force for Cactus during the two matches. She also chipped in 6 aces and 2 blocks while being one of the of the better passers in serve receive. Cactus is trending upwards and a big reason is Laila!     Madison had a great week last week, hitting over .467 while averaging over 4.3 kills a set. She was very efficient with her hitting as well, killing the ball at over 57%. She also did a great job serving and had 2 aces as well. NWC remains undefeated and Madison is one of the focal points of the offense.     Grace was unstoppable in her match up this week, getting 18 kills on 22 swings, hitting an amazing .818. She carried the load for her team in terms of her offense, and should maintain a pretty high kill per set in 2A this year and being the top offensive weapon for Veritas.     Cadence had a great first game for Tucson, and was all over the place for them. She average 5.7 digs per set, and lead the team in receptions for serve receive. She took as many balls as she could during her match up and also did well serving by chipping in 2 aces as well. Look for her to have many more games like this in the coming weeks!     In her one game last week Pulelehua had the most efficient game of the week. She had 7 swings and 7 kills in her match against Santa Cruz and also threw in 10 aces as well. An absolutely dominate and efficient performance from a 2A standout.     Brielle had a great week helping lead Paradise Honors to a 2-0 week. She hit .388 while averaging over 3.7 kills per set and killing the ball at a 44% rate. She also averaged 2 aces a set, while serving at 97% as well. She was scoring from the front row, service line, and back row. She had a double double with 10 digs in the Dysart match to cap off the week.     Had a great all around performance in her match up against Basha. She hit .357 while killing the ball at over 50%, and she was also running a very high and efficient offense when she wasn't hitting chipping in 23 assists as well. She also applied pressure at the service line with 6 aces. Scoring and setting her teammates up and scoring from the service line... all around great week from MaKenna.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The school season is just getting started, and we can't wait to continue following Arizona athletes and programs throughout the fall!
