7 Surging Sophomores in Michigan this Fall

Take Notes!</a>   --   No Sophomore slumps here, only up we go!   The high school season is well underway and these Sophomores have been making huge jumps in their game. From the new names bursting onto the scene to the players getting their time to shine and doing the most with it. These seven players have been surging in the rankings and making waves with their teams.   Let's talk about some of the top sophomores surging this fall in Michigan.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='888384' first='Allysse' last='Deshetsky'] - North Branch</h2>   We got to get a little taste of what [player_tooltip player_id='888384' first='Allysse' last='Deshetsky'] was made of last fall as freshman, but now, we are REALLY seeing what this young player can do. Leading the charge for the perennial power, North Branch, Deshetsky is doing everything she can out on the court. From her attack to her first touch, this sophomore not only is seeing a jump in reliability but seeing a huge jump in production and its paying off big.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='905632' first='Elyse' last='Reinholt'] - Kalamazoo Central</h2>   Look out for Kalamazoo Central and look out for [player_tooltip player_id='905632' first='Elyse' last='Reinholt']. This is a name that is new to my radar, but Reinholt is putting up some serious numbers here in the early goings of her sophomore season. Last fall, Reinholt had 87 kills and 77 digs on the season, fast forward to now, she's already eclipsed 250 kills and is nearing the double of her digs mark from 2025. Reinholt acts as the driving force for Central who just recently picked up a big win over in-town rival, Kalamazoo Christian.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='774460' first='Harper' last='Dallaire'] - Grosse Pointe North</h2>   Here comes the BOOM! Or should I say, here comes [player_tooltip player_id='774460' first='Harper' last='Dallaire'] from Grosse Pointe North. When talking about surging sophomores, Dallaire is one of the biggest ones to look out for. She's only picking up the pace from where she left off her freshman year, hitting well above .368 on the season, but Dallaire has also more than doubled her blocks per set numbers. Whether you're trying to stop her or she's stopping you, you do not want to contest [player_tooltip player_id='774460' first='Harper' last='Dallaire'] at the net.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='888951' first='Piper' last='Vugteveen'] - Hudsonville</h2>   Hudsonville will always find a way to be in the conversation, this place breeds excellence on the volleyball court. One of the next big stars for the Eagles is surely here with [player_tooltip player_id='888951' first='Piper' last='Vugteveen'] on the pins. While she is mostly seen on the right side, Vugteveen can be quite the threat on the left side as well. The versatility and prowess on the court offers the Eagles so many different options to terminate.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='777145' first='Andersyn' last='King'] - Harper Creek</h2>   This class is chock full of elite level setters, we need to talk about this one from Harper Creek. [player_tooltip player_id='777145' first='Andersyn' last='King'] is coming off of a really exciting freshman year. From her rookie season at Harper Creek to a big club season at FaR Out, King is bringing in a lot of experience into her sophomore year and it shows. She is one of the leaders in assists in both her class and in the entire state so far in 2026.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='991164' first='Delainey' last='Buchanan'] - DeWitt</h2>   From one setter to the next, we are not talking about this one nearly enough, or at all. [player_tooltip player_id='991164' first='Delainey' last='Buchanan'] from DeWitt is putting up some seriously eye catching numbers in year 2 at DeWitt. The 5'11 setter is another assists leader in the state and is bringing along a team that is currently undefeated in conference play.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='850401' first='Avery' last='Geer'] - Frankenmuth</h2>   Rounding out these surging sophomores, this Frankemuth Eagle is soaring this fall. [player_tooltip player_id='850401' first='Avery' last='Geer'] is another athlete that showed a lot of promise throughout her rookie season and is now translating that into a big second year. Bringing the energy to the court and putting the foot on the gas, Geer is unafraid to get after the play. Whether she is making the ambitious set and succeeding or taking the play into her own hands and ripping it on two, Geer is force.
