Not Just Hitters: 5 GHSA Pins Making an Impact in Every Rotation

She can move through the back row, contribute defensively and then transition into the next approach without looking rushed. That's an important skill for an outside because passing and attacking are physically connected — poor first-contact footwork can easily carry into a late approach. Outside attacking gives her more time to see the set and solve the block, while the middle asks for quicker footwork and faster decisions. McKenna's ability to contribute from both areas gives Covenant flexibility and also helps her understand blocking from several angles. That tends to show up in her instincts. She understands where a defender wants the attacker to hit, but she also knows what an attacker is trying to see. She needs timing, vision and the willingness to use different areas of the court. Her back-row experience helps because it gives her another way to stay valuable when a front-row matchup isn't favorable. McKenna can change positions across the front.
