Serving Weapons: Players Putting Teams Under Pressure

The service line can completely change the momentum of a match, and several players across Colorado are proving just how dangerous a dominant serve can be. These athletes are putting opposing serve receive units under constant pressure, stringing together long runs and creating valuable scoring opportunities for their teams. Here are some of Colorado's top serving weapons making their presence felt this fall. Ariah Griego stands out as the state's top server right now, recording an impressive 39 aces through just 27 sets played. Griego brings serious firepower behind the service line and has the ability to completely shift the momentum of a set once she gets rolling. Opposing teams need to be prepared for her serve, as she can quickly string together points and put tremendous pressure on serve receive. Her impact does not stop there, as Griego is also an offensive weapon who brings another level of firepower to her team's attack. Miyah Perdon brings an elite level serve to the floor for Columbine, consistently disrupting opposing serve receive units and creating scoring opportunities for her team. Perdon has already recorded an impressive 37 aces this season, and that number continues to rise as she establishes herself as one of the state's biggest threats from behind the service line. The junior setter serves with confidence and has the ability to put together long runs that can quickly shift the momentum of a set. Ivy Esch has been dominant from the service line for Twin Peaks Academy, recording a whopping 33 aces in just 14 sets. Esch is a player opposing teams need to have their eyes on, as she has the ability to completely shift the momentum of a set with her serve alone. She brings plenty of heat from behind the service line and can put together long scoring runs when she finds her rhythm. Esch's ability to consistently pressure serve receive makes her a key piece of the Twin Peaks lineup. Savannah Mead has been a major threat from the service line to start the high school season, already recording 31 aces for Cripple Creek. Mead brings impressive consistency to her serve and has the ability to place the ball nearly anywhere on the court, making it difficult for opposing teams to settle into serve receive. Currently sitting fourth in the state in aces, Mead has shown she can take over from behind the line and put together major scoring runs. Her combination of placement, consistency, and confidence makes her a player opposing teams will need to be prepared for. Avery Kreutzer has been a major weapon from the service line for Regis Jesuit, already recording an impressive 30 aces this season. The junior setter has developed a serve that brings serious heat and consistently puts opposing serve receivers under pressure. Kreutzer has the ability to string together long serving runs and quickly shift the momentum of a set in Regis Jesuit's favor. Opposing teams will need to have a plan for her behind the service line and find ways to get out of the rotation quickly before she takes control.
